When mine came from MSA, it was a plug-in (bless the simple 240Z). The fusebox got swapped out at the same time, which waz more complicated.

The upgraded loom contains two relays, correct?

Frank

Its funny that you posted this Mike. I was just looking at them for my 240 last night. I just had my turn and headlight switched rebuilt and I was looking to do the upgrade, but not sure what it involves. Frank did this help alot, and was it easy to install.

Are these the units that Dave Irwin fabricates?

The ones from black dragon are made in Taiwan or something. Mike, are the plugs the same as in the picture you posted?

If they are, think for a second. Just think how they would connect to the circuit and where the electricity needs to go. Its a lot simpler than you think.

I didn't have to modify my harness or the headlight harness at all to install it, besides removing that day-glo yellow sheathing. Unless you want to cut a hole in your headlight buckets though, you will need a tiny flathead screwdriver to gently remove the three pins from the headlight connector....

I got the whole sheebang at one time. Forward loom, fuseblock and headlight harness. Everything plugged in together right in my driveway, but it should be done systematically (pull one loom as you replace it with the new one). That makes it easier. The fuseblock was beyond my capability since the plugs were not exact. Vinny looked at it and popped it together in less time than I can tell about it.

The results were great. The new headlamps look like aircraft landing lights in the dark, there is no excessive draw off the circuit and I haven't blown a fuse since the swap, whereas I was changing 1-2 a month before.

My only complaint is that sometimes (only sometimes) I'll twist the headlamp switch and they won't come on. I twist the switch again and they do. I suspect the switch, not the relays.

Frank

Yeah, I pulled my headlight stalk apart one time to inspect the switch. All it relies on are these two plastic nubs that are pushed against the electrical contacts. There's so much amperage going through that system that the heat eventually melts the plastic...

Hint: Where you THINK that three prong plugs into may not be where it should go...
