Ok I am looking for someone local that knows there way around an L28. The car had been sitting and won't start. I have repaired the fuel lines, changed the plugs, flushed the fuel rail, installed a new fuel pressure regulator, drained the fuel tank, and the car turns over and pops but no go. So if you live in the oxford ct area and have some time I would greatly appreciate some help.

The only things you need to make any internal combustion engine run are:

1. Proper Air/Fuel mixture;
2. Compression;
3. Properly timed spark;
4. Properly timed valves (intake/compression/power/exhaust).

It sounds like you're well on your way to making those happen. If you have a compression tester and a companion, run a compression test on all six cylinders and compare them. If compression is within normal limits, check ignition timing. If that's OK, try squirting starting fluid into the carbs. If it runs OK momentarily with that, then you know you should start focusing on the fuel system. If it doesn't run on starting fluid, look elsewhere.

Place each connected plug on top of your cam cover and turn the engine over, watching for a good spark on each one.

I remember (sort of) where you live ~ I might have a few hours free on Wednesday if you don't have it running by then. I could swing by and we could do some preliminary tests if you're there. (NO FAIR leaving the wife and me there to start YOUR car while you work! :lol: )

Make sure the battery is strong.

I had a 81 280zx would turn over pretty good, but would not fire up. When I put the battery charger on it would fire right up. Took the charger off and it would just crank over.

Guess it need correct voltage to operate the fuel injectors, computer, ignition system, a some other thinks to fire up.

i definitely have fuel pressure. i just replaced a piece of line that was leaking fuel. i really think it's something with the spark. i spray starting fluid and i don't even get a kick. so i am going to check the firing order and go from there.

Check for spark at each plug. Unscrew them, plug the lead back on, and lay them atop your cam cover (at a clean place). Turn the engine over and watch for the light show. If nothing's sparking, you know where to start your troubleshooting. Mark your wires to ensure you put them back where they belong. I use clip-on clothespins, marked 1-thru-6. One's at the front, six is at the rear.

Also pop the distributor cap off, turn the engine over and make sure the darned thing is actually spinning. A broken gear, distributor shaft, or camshaft will CERTAINLY keep it from starting.

Woo hoo!!! Firing order was way off and she started right up. Next problem I must have a vacuum leak or something cause she doesn't idle it revs right up to 4,000rpm. But man what a sound! I think I have vacuum pots missing hose. Also I know the lower part of the throttle body there is a threaded hole. Don't know what goes there but that must make a huge vacuum leak
