Bigger isn't better. Higher pressure is. I recently transformed my 83 turbo to a COMPLETE N/A drive line. Using the smaller flywheel with a centerforce clutch I now have more grip. Also, the throw out bearing collar on a turbo is different from an N/A too. If I felt like spending the money I would have gone with a 9 lb flywheel with even a higher pressure clutch, and not even bother with a larger flywhell. I've seen that race cars use even a smaller flywheel at that. I also don't recall 9 flywheel bolts, huhhh, did I overlook something. Always, always use locktight on them, snug first, then tighten. Of course AJ's added security will work as well. Also, putting a new clutch on a glazed flywheel is defeating the purpose. Have it resurfaced.

Thanx for weighing in. Can you (or anyone else) recommend a shop, preferably in southeastern CT, to do the flywheel resurfacing?

By the way, Allan ~ the Club currently has a Sep/71 240Z parts car, in case you break anything important on your '71. (HLS30-42421). The 4spd, clutch, pressure plate, slave and master cylinders remain intact. All parts are for sale to MEMBERS ONLY, for MEMBERS' USE only, at dirt-cheap prices. All proceeds go to the Club kitty to help pay for future Club events, so everyone benefits when you buy parts off this car.

I don't want anything, but the Club could use $20 for it when I get it off. You can write a check for $20 to CTZCC for 'car partz' and hand it to Ross at the meeting. I'll pull the driveshaft off either this month or next (depends when I can get spare time). Not a big job.

I followed the whole two pages of this thread and thought I followed it moderately well 'till I remembered the first entry in the string, so I went back to it and started scratching my head.

I've been around Z's practically since the beginning, AND I AIN'T NEVER SEEN A '71 240-ZX!!!-----------Rick

It'z mostly self aggrandising tonge-in-cheek.
The last itme I replaced the engine ('motors' are electric,Frank tellz me) it was w/ an '83 long block from Nissan. A 5-gear of as yet undetermined vintage was mated up shortly thereafter. This latest and larger clutch (along w/ a Centerforce pressure plate and turbo flywheel from the 'Airjockie Collection') combo has been romping since...
Hard to say who's happier,me,or 'lil red'...
Darn glad you're aboard.
Al

Did you live in Michigan? If so when and where? I just moved out here 3 years ago. Well if you need help with that clutch just let me know. I got a garage to work in. A jack that would pick a house 2 feet off the ground and plenty of air tools.
