ok.
i Have noticed that Z's made upto 75 have a shorter rear strut tower than the 75 on 2+2 and 2 seater.
I have a 1/74 260Z here. #544. and it has the same strut tower as all the earlier 240Z's.
Then i have a 1/75 2+2 which has taller strut towers.
Same with my 76 260Z 2 seater.

Has anybody noticed this??

My guess is that nissan made the change for the 2+2. Maybe it needed more ground clearance at the rear.???
Then they just carried through to all the rest of the models.
so about 1/75 you start to see a change in the heights.
The 240 has a card insert at the top of the tower to make it look solid and flat. 75 onwards was a full metal top plate. My retracting seat belt bolts onto this flat section at the top.

Also if this is the case then are the rear struts different between early and late Z's??
And do 2+2 struts fit on a pre 75 Z???
Everything looks the same but i'll guess when you put it together something wont line up properly.

from floor to heighest point.
pre 75 - 11 and 1 half INCHES. 290cm
post 75 - 13 and a half INCHES 340cm.

Hi Pete!
I haven't intended to ignore this thread, but this has been Thanksgiving Weekend in the USA and things here just aren't normal for about 4 days in a row.
YES! The rear shock towers differ and I have those exact specs, but I have to find whichever manual I read them in and then I'll quote them.
You're not being ignored, you've simply been prioritized!

Frank

yeah no worries Frank...
This strut question has been on my mind for ages...
im really interested to know if Nissan changed the Strut itself or are the struts the same on all Z's. 240 - 280.
I've only got a 240Z Nissan work shop manual. The nissan manuals are totally awesome. Exact specs, tolerances etc...
I've got the haines 260 book but i trust the nissan manual before anything else.

I do know the 260 had a split year then changed some things. The early 260 has the 240 style bumbers then the later 260 has the larger 280 like bumpers.
