Rebuilding the slave cylinder is easy. There's only a few parts...

I photo-documented my rebuild.

Warning - once the slave goes, the master cylinder is not far behind. It might behoove you to replace 'em both and the rubber hose so long as you're under it. Peace of mind.

So I let the wife borrow the Z and then she has it towed home, "damit I said, I could of drove it home with no hyraulics to save me from the embarrasment, damit I say again." So I had to take the one off the 79, clean it very well and install it in the 83, O well, 30 minutes I had to waste. Still going. So try this, buy all new parts, or, take things apart, clean all the sludge out and put it back together and see what happens. First I clean with soap and water, for brake fluid is water soluable, then clean with some brake fluid that you do not reuse, then reassemble. Also, knowing how to drive a car without the clutch might save you some day.

Drove mine without clutch or brakes (except handbrake) for two months!

I was VERY selective about where I drove, and thought long and hard about the necessity of each trip before I left home!
