OK, what are we gonna do about your car? Do you have a replacement alternator yet? Are you ready to swap out the old one? Do you still need my help?

Those guys are great. They really know their stuff and they specialiZe on cars like yours. If there is anything wrong besides the alternator, they can tell you that, too. Smart move.
I have their address in one of my previous EMails, but no time to search for it at the moment.
So I guess the next time we see you, you'll be Z-ing! :D

Frank

(PS ~ do you really fit into a Z car? You looked about 7ft tall at the picnic)

HOORAY !!!!!!!!!!! I replaced the alternator and now she starts ....BUT...... now the lights in the dash wont come on when i turn on the head lights just the high beams i think its the relay but dont know which one and also my power seat switch is broken( not the lever its the entire lever with the base i can still move it but it wond to any thing and its out of place WILL TAKE PICSTO SHOW) and i cant move the chair back at all and i dont want to move it around because he did it sparked and smoke started to come out (he moved it back to the position so the smoke would stop (we disconnected the battery as a just in case) but i dont know what to do with that if any one can help

Sounds to me as if you're just running over a live wire with the seat rail. Look under the seat carefully and see if you find where a scorch mark or bare wire shows.

I would think (guess) that you could put the seat into the position you want, then quickly disconnect the seat drive motor wire harness as soon as the seat reaches the correct position. That does NOT repair the problem ~ it simply lets you drive the car without setting it ablaze.

Anybody else's 300ZX have such electrical gremlins? Give this man some help!

Did the lights work before the altenator replacement? Maybe you just unplugged something without knowing it. For the seat, take it out and look, only 4 bolts and some plugs. Then you can see first hand whats happening. Could be a fraid wire, bad motor straining for it's last life. Maybe there's a cheeseburger clogging everything up and putting a strain on it. :D

the lights did work before it has happened before but then it self corrected and hasnt dont it again since but as for the power seat i can move it at all and its only the switch thats broken (its twisted out of place) when i try to twisted into place it spark or smoke so i twist it back so it would stop to prevent blazing the car last thing i want to do

Could the dash lamp dimmer be set to the extreme low postion.

On my 91 the dimmer rocker button in directly above the headlamp switch.

I dont think that could be it becasue i just get the high beams only when i flick the head lights and also i have seen when the dimmer is all the way on low and its still a bit bright i think its the relay and also

UPDATE ON THE POWER SEAT

my dad took the cover off and the switch was shattered on the inside BUT he was able to find a new (used) switch with both switch levers that workd for...........$5!!!!!!!!!!!!!
