Hey Paul M and Tom W ~

Since you two have owned more Z cars than most Datsun dealers, have either of you experimented with different grille colors?

I sandblasted my grille ystrdy in preparation for repainting it flat black, but it looked so good 'in the white' that I decided to spray it silver instead.

I might not leave it that way ~ it sort of reminds me of a 56 Chevy, somehow.

Any experience with "other color" grilles?

You know, I just remembered, I need a grill for my 240. I had mostly s130's, only 3 s30 in my time and 2 rotted to death, and 1 z31. I think silver does look nice, but if I can get one for mine, it will be black, for my scenerio is white and black. I have a nice 280 grill, but that's it.

Yeah, the 280 grille won't fit your 240.
Ask for one for the Picnic swap!

I know where there is a 1971 240 in a local junkyard, but I don't recall if the grille is still there or not. Want me to check?

No problem, really. I've been meaning to make time to revisit this car for several months now, to check for partZ for other members.

I promised cfg240Z I would look for a cigarette lighter (the final part he needs to make his perfect 240 COMPLETE :D ). And recently somebody (maybe it was you?) asked about a rear bumper and front bumper mounts.

Somebody else recently mentioned the Multi-switch light stalk and "clamshell" cover for the steering column, but I have already taken those exact parts off this car for another member, last time I visited it months ago.

ALL my time is "spare", bro. This club is the most fun I've had in years, and helping my fellow Zers is a blast as far as I'm concerned.

It gives me something to do and keeps me off the streets. Society's safer that way.

This makes it look like a '55 Chevy somehow. I might not leave it this way. If I can't find a place to put a deep chrome on the bumper, I might paint the center section of the bumper black, leave the ends chrome, and just use it that way.

So who thinks this looks dorky and I should change it? I can't decide if I like it or not. It's unique (I don't recall ever seeing a Z car with a silver grille), but I'm not sure if it whispers "Unique Z" or "Old Chrysler" :?

Looks good to me. Is that the final color of the Z? Original color?

No, original color was silver (which was my car's "name" in Back in he Day). In the late 1970s I changed it to metalflake copper, just about 8 months before Datsun releaseed that as a color option. It was copper when I let it go in the mid-80s, and it came back to me 23 yrs later in this Mazda Miata blue.
( had to modify the contrast on this photo to show the silver grille in a shadow. The actual paint color is several shades deeper).

Eventually the car will be Pearlescent Pewter, but the paintshop will be the last place it goes, after everything else is fixed.

(PS ~ how old/new was that silver Z at the time your photo was taken?)

That's not mine, I wish. Well that sounds like a good color. Yea, paint is last for me, mechanical and interior are more important to me, for all I see when driving is the hood, so paint that first. :P
