Hi All,

Could somebody tell me if it is necessary to have a "metal" fuel line from the pump, to the filter.? Or can it be replaced with a high pressure rubber hose? I replaced the fuel line with rubber hose, because it had a leak in it. But my Z doesn't seem to be running correctly. :? The hose is a larger diameter, and I'm wondering if there is too much fuel being pumped to the filter. I know the injectors regulate the amount of fuel going into the piston, but am wondering if it is the same as metal lines? Am I loosing pressure into the fuel rail or something? I also noticed my fuel rail leaking fuel through a pinhole, it only leaked "once" that I saw, but can't find it.......(the hole) So maybe I'm loosing pressure in the fuel rail, also? Now to fix the passenger side!!!!! Thanks in advance for any help!

THANXXXX, BigGar

Hey Gary, where's your fuel pump? "Pulling" from the engine, or "pushing" from the tank?

sorry for not getting to this post earlier.

fuel line size dont matter if they are off on OD unless your running supper huge hose to the engine. Once a volume is filled, equal pressure is exerted. As in, the pump puts out so much psi, and it fills a tank.... then what ever output is flowing will be the same pressure the pump exerts. The normal Z engine will not need all the volume a normal pump can send...unless your fully turbo, or running a sick ass N/A monster, or added a few more cylinders. If your adding hose to the helper fuel pump to the rear of the car, or to the the engine bay, it really shouldn't change the amount of fuel getting to the engine tooo much. The 240Z had only the mech fuel pump at the engine, the 260Z had an electric fuel pump at the rear of the car next to the tank, and also a mech fuel pump on the motor, and the 280Z only had the primary pump in the rear of the car...all other newer cars only ended up with fuel pumps in or next to the gas tank.

A fuel pressure regulator regulates fuel pressure, not the injectors. And its a cylinder looking thing with 2 fuel lines going in and out, and a vacuumed hose attached to it. Normally its located after the injectors and in line with the return hose going back to the fuel tank. Given some more time to type, I can explain in more detail the complete fuel system.

Thanxx Airjockey,

The inside diameter is a little bigger than the stock metal fuel lines, so I was thinking that there was not enough fuel line pressure to move the fuel from the tank, through the fuel rail, at the injectors? All my injectors are "clicking"..... with screwdriver too my ear, but motor doesn't seem to have as quick of a response when revving it up in the engine bay with my hand. It could be my AFM out of adjustment? I moved the adjusting screw quite abit too get it running, but now don't know if it's set properly. I read somewhere you have to set it with whats coming out of the tailpipe...(exhaust) CO2??? Can you tell me the correct way to set the AFM, please, if you know? Or does it need a "specialist" to do it? :?: I don't know!!!!

Thanx for "ANY" help!!
BigGar!

It's been so long since we discussed this, I had to go back and re-read the original question!

I concur with what Airjockie said. An increase in the inside diameter of the fuel line might decrease the pressure just a smidgen, but not enough to cause any change in performance. And while that might also increase fuel flow volume a tiny bit, it wouldn't be enough to make any noticeable difference in the engine.

I'd look elsewhere for the reason you car doesn't seem to be responding ~ such as the large adjustments you made to the AFM.

ALSO ~ if you have ANY type of fuel leak at the engine, stop everything else and fix that first. Even if it's too small to effect performance, it might be just the right size to start an engine fire, then you'd be back at Square One.
As I recall, this whole project started because of an under-hood fire. OK, the first one was electrical. But a fuel fire will take out EVERYTHING under there in a few terrifying, heartbreaking moments. FIX THE LEAK, Gary!

Hi Frank,

The whole "project" stareted from a power surge in a wire in the dashharness....... but you are right, I'd HATE to have an engine fire!!!! I only saw the rail leak "once", it squirted out a stream of gas, then stopped, and hasn't leaked again, that I've seen..
Has anybody got a good fuel rail they could sell meeeeee?

maybe I was seeing things!! NOT!
