help! i am changing motors in my 260 and have a crate 2400 maxima motor. the problem is this motor is a front sump and the zcar is rear. when i opened it up i found the flange boss that i need is not tapped or drilled down to the oil "gallery". i can tap the threads to mount the pickup, but i don't know if i can drill deeper or am i going to ruin this block?! can i just extent the pickup that's there or is this block all wrong for my application? the oil pan doesn't have alot of clearance on the side where the pickup leaves the boss, so extenting the pickup will be tight, to say the least. bryan, vinnie, any opinions??? mike engelhardt

I haven't messed with a Maxima block, but I have read comments about the reverse sump.

Are you talking about just changing the pickup, or drilling a new hole on the other side of the block? Attached is a photo of my F54 with the front of the block on the left.

For some reason, Vinny's EMail doesn't pop up on our website. I spoke with him and he says to give you his contact info. Vinny.Bedini@NetZero.Net.
We're working on fixing whatever happened to his registration entry to make sure anyone else knows how to reach him.
Frank
(PS Mike ~ your question is far out of my league. The only holes I've ever drilled in engine blocks came from rifles).

So Mike ~ whatever became of this? We haven't heard from you since this entry; are you trapped under the car or something? :o

Do you need any help with this swap?

(And by the way, WebWizzard Jim fixed up Vinny's Website button on our Homepage so it shows up better, and magnified the fonts in his ad so people with normal eyesight can see it clearly).

sorry i didn't update you guys about my little project quicker, when you get this old you forget what day it is, right frank?! well anyway, what i ended up doing was scrapping the maxima motor idea and going with my original plan which was to put the maxima head on the old 260 block. i used the head, timing set. oil pump and front cover from the maxima crate motor on my old motor, which only had 50,000 miles on it. the only thing bought was a gasket set and permitex for the sum of 86 smackers! i was scared i was raising the compression too high by doing this , because putting that head on a flat top piston motor puts you at 10.5 and that puts you at premium gas level! well, i had a full tank of regular when i parked the tin can and i had to use it up, so i did, and no ping, really, no ping! now, let me tell you what really happened- if you read bryan's thoughts about zcars he says to only use permitex, please listen, use permitex, can we say, permitex- that's right boys and girls, permitex!!!!! needless to say, the motor came out of the tin can three times, stop giggling!!! three times a charm- i know every nut and bolt in this car, three times over!! the bottom line is it runs like it never did before and was worth my time to do it, bigtime. three oil changes in three days- that's got to be a record! so what we have is headers, mallory unilite ,holley four barrel ,mn47 head ,and flat top pistons, that's got to be good for at least 5000 horsepower!! this was all because i needed a new flexplate- go figure!! mike engelhardt

So how does it perform Mike?? Must be a nice improvement over the stock motor. Did you go with a 5-speed?
