I've had my Z sitting for quite awhile. It won't start, I believe that my former co-worker unplugged one of the sensors in the car to cause this.

I'm prepared to tow my car to a shop. But on a sidenote, is there a checklist I can go through to try to fix this? Or does anybody have any ideas on what I should look for?

If not, can anybody recommend me a good shop (preferrably in central ct) that specializes on 300zx's?

Thanks.

Describe what happens when you try to start it.

I've never owned a 300zx and they're pretty complicated compared to my old Series-1 car, so I'm unfamiliar with all the bells & whistles they might have on them.
But let's talk grassroots basics for a moment ~
1. Is it an automatic? Make sure it's fully in Park;
2. Is it a standard? Depress the clutch in case it has a kiddy safety switch;
3. Does it have a seatbelt safety switch? Hook 'em up;
4. Do you have an anti-theft device/system? Check the status.
5. Many newer cars have a fuel cutoff safety switch which prevents it from restarting after an accident, until the switch is reset. Sometimes those switches bump-off for stupid reasons.
6. Does your ZX have an alcohol sensor? (You called us at 1:30 AM).
Try later!

If your car has been intentionally vandalized there is probably no way for anyone to diagnose it remotely. But you might be able to.

There are only a few things you need to make any engine run:
1. Proper air/fuel mixture;
2. Sufficient compression of that air/fuel mixture;
3. Sufficient spark (at the proper time) to cause combustion of the
air/fuel mixture;
4. Proper valve timing to allow for compression and exhaust of the
air/fuel mixture.

Any failure to start will be traced to a failure of one of those requirements.

Check to see if you have spark "AT" the plugs. (Keep your hands and clothes away from the fan, please). Spark "TO" the plugs is not necessarily good enough. Lay a plug (connected of course) atop the cam cover and watch the gap as you crank the engine ~ you want to actually SEE a spark.

We trust one of our members' garages, who are excellent 300 mechs.
Contact Norm or Rich at the Reserch & Development for Zs in Danbury. Their website has telephone info; www.RDZ300.com.

In central CT we have done business with Barbarino NISSAN in Wallingford, but our sponsoring dealership is NISSAN of Darien, and we love them. Their website is highlighted on our home page.

NOW ~ get on our membership roll and tell us about yrslf and that beautiful Z car!

Frank, I appreciate your reply and I will keep this thread updated until the car is running. I'll be sure to post up pics soon.

BTW the car is a 5 speed.
I'm going to get in the car when I can and try what you posted.

Thanks bro.

Hey, you're welcome, bro ~ we're all family here.

Can anyone think of anything else I missed, to help Synnikal stop looking at his TT and start driving it?

We're waiting for you to explain what happens when you try to start it.

Synnikal ~

What ever became of this? Are you driving it yet? What did the problem turn out to be?

There are many reasons this could be happening. One that happens with the Z32 is failure(corrision) of the Starter relay from age. Where are you located?

Hey Y'all ~

How did this work out? Did you get it started or isolate the problem yet?
