Has anyone changed valve stem seals? I've been experiencing some smoke when the engine is warm. I'm not sure if it's the turbo or the valve seals. I've been loosing some oil, and I'm trying to find out where it may be burning off from.

I just hope it's not something major.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Waz ~

Bluish-grey smoke, or black?
(I know that doesn't answer your direct Q, but it's important for you to determine the actual problem BEFORE you start tearing things apart).

If you get smoke on startup that goes away after a minute it's likely your valve seals. Scroll about 1/2 way down the site below for the replacement procedure.

If it smokes under acceleration or normal driving it means that oil is making it into the combustions chamber. That's usually because your rings are worn. Doing a compression check with a compression tool on each cylinder is the best way to diagnose it.

One trick is to pull off the hose on the valve cover and rev it. If you see light puffs of smoke coming out from the valve cover that means lots of "leak down" from the cylinder down into the crankcase...same cause: worn rings.
