We just finished reinstalling the engine after giving it a good clean up and we are tuning it. Every thing in the manuals for our 280zx says we can adjust the idle with an idle adjust screw somewhere behind the dissy and on the throttle body. I will be darned if I can find this, does the 280zx 82 have one? Could someone upload a pic? Thanks!

This is apparently a common question.

The 1982 has a vertical screw 'hiding' inside a vertical tube, as shown. It looks as if you might have to pop-off a dust cap to expose the screw?

It's staring you right in the face. Like the diagram shows, pop the cap off. There is also some fine tuning, that so far seem to be my secret. Notice the caps on the AFM, then if anything else, you into the AFM.

Nice looking engine. Just to expand my knowledge, did Datsun actually route, what looks like a (blue) coil wire, to lay on top of the cross frame? Do any 280's have a fan shroud to improve and direct air flow (and finger safety)? Thanks. Enjoy the Zeason.

I think I can answer some of that, Howie. If you look at the top of his distributor cap you'll see where that secondary voltage wire should plug-in when he's ready to start it.

Also, when I changed from my tired old replacement radiator to a new aluminum Champion unit a few years ago, a 280 shroud was the only thing which would fit. The zx models had the sloping hoodline which called for a lower radiator, so the fan was actually up too high to fit a shroud over it. They probably could have done a good job of installing a couple electric pusher fans ahead of the radiator and eliminating the spinning engine fan, but for whatever reason that's not what they decided to do.
