So I'm going to start posting some of the "cleanup" activities I do to my 260z I purchased this fall. And some of the stupid things one just can not stop themselves from doing.

And of course first off... CHERRY BOMB!!!

and I found a gross leak in my throttle opener diaphragm.

My '70 240 came from the dealer with twin ANSA exhaust system; true duals from the block to the bumper. They were straight pipes all the way back to the fuel tank, then ran thru dual Cherry Bomb glass packs. They were long tubular things welded together like a pair of binoculars. The few times I had them off the car I could hold them up like field glasses and just look straight thru them; nothing at all inside and no deviation. Just packed with fiberglass all around the holes. ZERO restriction. Just loved to hear that L24 wind up full-song thru those CherryBombs. :twisted:

An explanation and description of your throttle diaphragm would make an excellent TechTalk post. It's winter, our cars are mostly locked up for the year, and we need technical things to think about to keep us (semi-)sane.

So in my curiosity and inconsistency on the internet I probed my cylinders to see if my 260z had dished pistons. The previous owner of my car said that when he got it running again after sitting for 26 years of sitting said the valve were stuck and had to put on a new head. He said the head was from a 1973 240z. Well we all know how dicey changes are over the model years are there is a lot of hoopla about the 260Z combustion chamber being crap and if the 1973 240Z head is really the same as the 260z head, blah blah blah.

Well my findings.
Cylinders = Flat Top
Observation, certainly have valve strikes cylinder #3.
Cylinder #2 has a "3" stamped into it. Does anyone know what the hell that would be from? Did Datsun pre number the cylinders, measure the bore and then pick what fits for clearances?
