well im going to do the breaks finally on Friday and ideas or tips on what would make this project a bit easier

Hi Allan ~ good to hear from you.

The brakes are the most important system on your Z (or any car), so you don't want to skimp on them. What ideas do you have for them already? Will you leave them stock or do you plan an upgrade?

Funny AJ. :lol: Frank, I tell my students the same thing. What good is it to have a fast car that can't stop. Well, first use good quality pads. If the rotors don't look good replace them as well. If it stops fine now, and you have no brake shimmy, they should be alright. Even though, if they still look bad, I just replace them. Turning rotors is out of style, plus, now you will have thinner metal and less heat disapation, therefore, pads will ware quicker. Make shure you get some good brake lube, I use Sly-glide, and any auto store sells it. (silicon base) Use this to lubricate the caliper slides and any place the pads will rest on and slide. I hade a front brake seize on my truck this summer on the way to NY. (oooh, that smell) The pads were stuck hard on there mounts because of no lube from PO. I ended up fixing it on the spot at the nearest rest stop and was on my way. Then put the same lube on the back of the pads for anti-squeel. The front pistons can be depressed in via, the right tool, c-clamp, or some big pliers. The rears, (if e-brake is part of caliper) will have to spin in, again, with the right to, (rubics cube) or needle nose pliers, or screw driver. Just buy the rubics cube, you'll be glad you did. (square thing with different sides for all cars, and 3/8 ratchet hole.) Cheap at auto store.

thanks for the advice i plan to keep the car as stock as possible i gto all the parts that i think i need c- clamp, pliers (needle nose included) latex gloves break kit ( just to be safe dont want to be running back and forth to the auto store) getting a bacon and chicken pizza no beer dont want mess any thing up because i some how got plastered and i wouldn't mind having some help if any one wants to :D

Hi Alan,

Some staple tools and supplies to have when dealing with rusted or stubborn suspension parts are a plumber torch, PB Blaster (breaks up rust like no other product), hammer, long breaker socket bar, impact gun if possible and just take your time. Forcing parts to more before they have been massaged loose usually results in broken or striped hardware.

well i got the breaks done on the car just the front ones i will be doing the rear on another day it was very easy one thing noticed is that the wiring on the inner tires is showing what does that mean beside i need new tires and also i noticed the to rotor is loose ( i can move it back and forth like a tire when the lig nuts arnt on)
