I feel like I just won the friggin' lottery!

If you have been following this thread:
http://forums.ctzcc.com/viewtopic.php?t=4034 I found last night that the firewall end of my 280Z carb linkage on my 240Z was worn. What was happening was that during a tune up I noticed that when I opened the throttle by hand, the last inch didn't do anything....the worn plastic bushing would shift and absorb the rotation. The throttle was actually only opening 80% at full throttle (@#$%^). It suddenly made sense as my engine has felt strong the last few months but was sluggish at revs above 6k. I had blamed it on the weather, etc.

So last night I expoxied the outer portion of the bushing but left but left the rod so it would rotate within it. The action is now tight but smooth like it should be.

When doing the road test toady I was speechless...I feel like I picked up 30 horsepower...no kidding. The engine pulls much harder...very fast past redline, the wall I was hitting at 6k is gone and the motor pulls immediately past 7k in 3rd gear with little effort. Not even the same motor. I was shaking my head in disbelief.

I don't know how long this stupid worn bushing has been killing my horsepower, but I don't remember my engine ever feeling this strong. Since I have been using this linkage for years I suspect my dyno and race times have been suffering and I never knew it...I feel like I just discovered a chest of buried treasure....don't make the same mistake I did and assume you are getting full thottle: check your linkage.

Free Horsepower! What a gift!

Does that mean the car performs even better now than it did when I drove it last year? Is that even POSSIBLE???

Hope the epoxy lasts ~ if not, we can all be watching for a replacement fitting for you.

Nice work. You never cease to amaZe me.

always check that your getting full throttle... no matter what carbies r on it..
get someone to hold the pedal to the floor then check at the linkage end that it is fully open.. or as open as it will go...

theres nothing worse than running on less than 100% throttle...

yep, after all the power tuning I have done over the years I'm embarrassed that I somehow missed this weak spot.

The 240z throttle linkage doesn't use this bushing and can't wear the same way. So I have located an original 240 linkage and will changing it back tonight.

Time to dyno again.
