Post subject:  NEW MEMBER!

Hey everyone! I'm somewhat new here. I joined last August but I'm just starting to post now (mostly because I forgot my username for a while). I'm 20 years old and have 4 S30's at the moment. I was always into American muscle and, oddly enough, British sports cars. My first car was a 1971 AMC Javelin SST which I drove all through highschool. I've had everything from Jaguar E-Type's to MGB's to Dodge Chargers. I bought my first Datsun in October of 2013 while I was looking for an Iroc Z Camaro. It came up in the search results because it had "Z" in the title. I saw the ad "early 260z" and thought to myself "wow thats alot better looking than any Camaro I've ever seen." so, a few phone calls later I had my first Z. I bought it to flip, because thats how I made money at the time, but one test drive later and I knew it was staying for good. It's been my daily driver ever since. My second Z car was a '77 280z I bought from New York in May 2014 and parted out. In November 2014 I bought 2 matching 1971 240z's which I still have, but need to restore. My latest is a 1970 240z that I bought in May 2015. Thanks everyone! - Derek Matcheski

Now, THAT's an exciting story and I have to tell you, I'm more than a little jealous! Anybody who has 4 Zs and has had a "B" and an E-Type is somebody we all need to know. I sold a '67 MGB to get my Z, and I had a string of Healeys before that. And motorcycles!

WELCOME, Derek! You've just landed in the best Z Club on planet earth. We have more than 700 members all over the world and across the USA, and just about 600 cars, last count. You're sure to make new Z friends in here.

We're active and enjoy helping each other out whenever possible. We learn from each other and have some lifetime Z experts among us, as well as a good number of total Newbies who are just learning their first Zs. You're gonna fit right in here, someplace.

Can't wait to zee all your carz!

Thanks, Frank! I've been working on cars my entire life. I grew up in my dad's shop (Alpha & Omega Auto Restorations) in Middlefield, CT and learned everything from my dad, Bob. I work on MGB's in Meriden now and am in charge of everything from full restorations to paint jobs and engine building. I've only been a Z guy for about 2 years but I'm very confident in my knowledge of the cars. I hope I can contribute to this page! - Derek

You already have!
:D

So, you KNOW MG-Bs! Mine was a BRG chrome bumper with knock-off wires and I miss it terribly, but I would far rather have the Z. I had pulled the seats out of mine and replaced them with adjustable Mustang seats. Felt like I was sitting in an easy chair by comparison. Looked horrible, tho. I had a soft top and a tonneau cover and almost everything worked on mine ~ usually.

Everything worked?! Wow, that's strange. Did someone replace the entire Lucas electircal system? haha I have alot of respect for MGB's but Z cars are much more fun!

Ohhh, I was in such a good mood until you mentioned the Prince of Darkness.

Yes, mysteriously most of my electrical stuff on the B worked most of the time. My Healeys, however, were another story.

Haha sorry, Frank. Lucas is a sore subject for me too. At least now we can appreciate a good electrical system like the ones in our Z cars. I do love Healeys though!

Welcome. This is great club. I'm looking forward to picking your brain about my own restoration project. Hope to see you at the next meeting.

Q: Does anybody know why the Brits drink their beer warm?

Thanks pacosta! I'll be at the Executive Nissan show in North Haven this year. I went last year too. And Frank, it's because Lucas makes their refrigerators haha :D

It was a pleasure meeting you and your gal at the meeting last night, Derek. You seem like a knowledgeable, competent wrencher already (and I really liked your T shirt :D ). I hope you two had some fun and met interesting members. I suspect you're going to have a lot of interesting adventures in the CTZCC. We especially welcome the younger generations of Z people, since the cars need knowledgeable curators and the Old Guard has carried that torch for 45years now. Eventually we'll need to pass the torch to a younger generation of Z nuts, and the more experience they have with the whole Z family, the better equipped they will be to care for the cars.
Looking forward to zeeing you at many more meetings and events, and to cruising with you when you get your Z where you want it. Each of the members you met last night has a stash of Z parts buried in the backyard, so if you ever need something for your car(s), this is the place to ask first. A lot of people just give the parts away to stop tripping over them and to help fellow Z nuts get one more car back on the road.

Thanks Frank! We both had an awesome time. It was such a nice place! We had fun getting caught in the rain on the way down route 1 haha. Its always an adventure. And as always, it was a pleasure zeeing you and your car again. You're always very friendly and welcoming. We'll have to meet up at Lime Rock at the vintage races in September. Hopefully my 240 will be done! Looking forward to talking with you!
