I am a new member here but not new to owning a Z-Car, my name is Karl W. and I live in Somers CT. I bought my first Z back in 1974 at the age of 21 with almost all of the hard earned money of my youth. I loved that 260Z more than I ever realized and for the next 6 years I pretty much drove it non-stop. It was a great car that gave me few problems for the entire time I owned it. In early 1980 I had it totally gone through and restored which included 2 new front quarters, struts, brakes, and anything else that needed attention. At that time I also had it completely repainted in its original color. Unfortunately on Memorial Day weekend in 1980 I totaled it by hitting a metal guardrail head on at around 50 MPH. I was driving home after meeting my fiancé’s collage friends at a get together up in the Marlborough Mass area. I wish I could say I was drunk or otherwise impaired but I wasn’t. Got married later that year and couldn’t afford to get another one as then it was time to buy a house and settle down. I always told myself that someday I would get another one when I could afford to and let it be at that. At the time it was wrecked it had 172,000 on the odometer and was 6 years old. When the insurance company totaled it they figured 6 years old, 72,000 miles worked for average use. Since it had just been gone through it worked for them appearance wise as well and they gave me around $150.00 less than I had paid for it back in 74’ when it was new as a total loss. I got $5480.00 after sales tax for it. For the past 2 years I have been searching for a replacement, finally around Christmas time I found one on e-bay that looked like a good car. Original owner, complete service record, had been Ziebart treated for rust and all looked good and it was already in CT. It does have some issues and needs some TLC (and a total paint restoration) but is as solid as I think I might find if I looked for 2 more years.
Driving it home after picking it up on 1/24 was the first time it had ever been driven in the winter. The owner told me it had only been out in the rain a few times in the 39 years he owned it. One thing for sure, after I had driven it down the road for the first 10 miles, it felt like I had never stopped driving my old one.
Anyway I am looking forward to meeting up with fellow Z owners and I know I will have many questions as I go forward and make this Z as good as I can afford to make it.

Welcome to the family Karl! Great story! and gorgeous Z! Funny how every Z owner has a unique story on how Z's have touched their lives in the past and why they need to reunite again in the future.

Anxious to meet you and your Z this summer. This forum is a great communication tool, providing you access to centuries of Z experience and help with your restoration. Get ready for a great time!

Thanks for the welcome I am sure this is the right group.
Frank, I searched around before I picked this group and quite honestly it seemed the most professional and knowledgeable one I came across. The 75 came from Salisbury CT I am not sure if the owner was / is a member or not. I will have to look through the member list and see. After reading your story Frank on finding your original car I wondered if I would recognize mine if I saw it. I always figured it was probably a soda machine in its new life.
I have a picture of it wrecked, I will have to scan it and include it in the post here.

Ya know, just re-reading Karl's story leaves me all warm & fuZZy. It's a story of human triumph over the forces which try to kill our fun. Guy finds Z. Guy falls in love with Z. Life happens and takes Z away from guy. Guy struggles with the loss. Guy diligently serves his responsibilities to life and family. Guy never forgets his love for Z. Guy is faithful and loyal to his first love, his Z. Decades later, when guy has honorably met his life's responsibilities to work, family, and life, Z comes back into his life like his long-lost love.

I don't know about the rest of you guyz, but I'm really looking fwd to this coming zeason, so Karl can get intimately re-acquainted with the Z life. It sounds as if he might have earned it, and everyone has the right to a second chance at love.

Karl, if you find yrslf just sitting alone in your Z in the garage over the winter, don't be ashamed. We all do that. 8)

Thanks for the welcome aboard everyone.
I have a few questions on some needs before getting my z's body work and paint done.
Looking around at the various suppliers for weatherstrip / glass rubber I see quite a difference in pricing between MSA and Black Dragon. Does anyone have any advice as to which might be better?
Same goes for Urethane bushing kits.
In both cases MSA is higher, is it better quality or just price differences ?

Welcome to the club Karl. Your story brings back many memories.
My first Blue 240 beat you by several years and I was newly married
and 23. Now, after moving around the country Carol & I live in Tolland
and have a .......... guess what? ...... '74 260Z .... work in progress.
Your probably won't recognize it as a 260, however, as it's missing a few
body parts, like a roof and rear hatch. I hope to have it back on the road
in another couple weeks after some winter tweeking. Hope we can get
together for a coffee or something as the weather improves.
Again, you made a good choice with CTZCC ..... even if you get exposed
to Frank too early in your membership ........ just kidding!
Jack
