I respectfully recommend you spend $5 at your local AutoZone and buy a quick-disconnect battery cut-off switch. If you ever have an electrical ground, it could save your entire electrical system (if not your car) from going up in smoke.

Frank, would you recommend the same for newer (84) Zs?

Not all of them, Filipe. Only the ones you want to save. 8)

This is the kind I use, but there are others. The green wheel is a screw which holds the cable in connection with the battery terminal. Unscrewing the wheel two turns drops the cable off the battery far faster than you could unbolt it (even if you had the wrench in your hand when the emergency arose).
This simple $5 device saved my 1970 Z car one night, when my upgraded 90amp alternator melted my fusebox. It is unquestionably one of the very best $5 investments I've ever made.

Oh Yeah, I'm getting that. I can't imagine having my Z burn to the ground knowing that I could prevent it!

Thanks for the advice Frank! I'll definitely be getting a quick disconnect now, and you read my mind about building a streetable race motor.
