 hahaha!
No, actually it means you can't drive your Z any which way until you get your expired license renewed. And DMV is closed on Monday.

UPDATE!

After having the Z off the road for over a month ( :( ) Dad and I were able to replace the Power Steering pump. Not tooooooo bad, but the cold, lack of skill, loss of motivation, etc made me slack a bit on the work. The PS Pump was indeed the point of failure in the power steering system. Not sure if it was because of the brake fluid or not. The pump might have been on its last legs (it was full of grit and grime) so the brake fluid might have been the last piece off the camel's back (or however that saying goes).

Anyway.

I drove the Z on a 200+ mile roundtrip to visit my girlfriend and her family this weekend. It was a blast. Feels good to be back behind the wheel. While I was up there, I also took out my factory air box and installed a K&N Air filter. fun fun fun

P.S. No leaks from the Power Steering…yet. ;)

Today I also washed the car!

And got a new (my first) tool chest. 100 bucks at Home Depot.

Felipe, so glad you got to drive the Z! The roads here in western NY are so crusted with salt, that it's going to take a month of rain to make them Z safe again!

And expecting 14 inches of snow tomorrow!

Winter sucks.

heya, thanks!

I have few to no choices, really. Gotta drive what I have. Don't regret it one bit. I take care of him, he takes care of me!

One year ago, it was a rainy, coldish night…I made one of the best decisions of my life. I bought this awesome car. Guess what the weather was like today at the same time? You got it..cold and rainy…

This one's to you, Randy. WE've come a long way in just one year.

P.S. He hit 82k today as I was pulling onto my street…never seen him look any better. Put about 3k on him in the first year; many, many more to come.

So while I was replacing the power steering pump I came across something very unique about my car. It may be because of the early production time that it has, or it could just simply be deffective. Take a look at the two pictures below. Look at the brackets. One has a notch for the high pressure line to lock in, and one doesn't. Both are Nissan parts, and both have the same part numbers!!

Basically, the notch is there to help remove the banjo bolt off of the power steering line.

A few weeks ago when I took Randy for a drive up to my girlfriend's I spent some guy time with her father installing my new K&N Air Filter. RF-1011 is the one I installed. $65 Shipped from Amazon.

I've noticed that the car is happier above 3200 RPM in both 2nd and 3rd than with the stock air filter. I'm happy too :)

I also just purchased a Front Cusco Strut Brace. It came in today :D

I also located some of my oil leaks. One is from the Oil Pressure Sender Unit (OPSU) the other is from the line going to the slave cylinder, and the last is the drain plug on the oil pan.

Now to get some new parts and to make it stop peeing :P

Some more updates. On 4-6-14 I tackled the spark plugs, cap, rotor and wires. I had the intention of doing the dust shield on the inside of the dizzy, but I thought Nissan sent me the wrong one. Turns out they didn’t, so I installed it a few days later. (For personal records, everything in this post was done at 82,348 miles, roughly).

Well, that was fun. The right tool makes a difference. The local Autozone guy let me in on a sweet tool. A socket remover with a magnetic end. It was great. I didn’t drop a single spark plug. The tool has a nice swivel action.

I replaced the parts with the following:
NGK 6779 Plugs
NGK Wires
Nissan Cap
Nissan Rotor
Nissan Dust Shield

I’m curious as to see if this will result in increased MPGs and performance. fingers crossed

To bigger news :
I had the set of keys to a few cars this week, as my family went away for a week. So I thought to myself hey, what better reason to take the Z off the road for a few days and do the suspension? Well, it’s never the amount of time you think it will be. But at least I did it right.

I took out the old original rear shocks, 1 of which was clearly blown. I also took out the fronts, which already had been replaced with KYBs. (FOR SALE, pm me). I replaced all corners with new rubber (top and bottom seats for the rear, bottom seats for the front, 1 of which is a cut garden hose, as I purchased the last NOS one in America!) and 5k Tokico Ilumina 5 way adjustable shocks/struts.

I also replaced the springs on the front as well as the rear. I swapped out the tired, old originals for ST Springs which have about 30K miles on them. I refinished them very well before installation, and am happy thus far!

UPDATE:
Turns out I didn’t properly tighten the driver’s side strut, and it was generating some clunking noise. Torqued it up a bit more, and we are good!

Edit:

I forgot to mention, the gland nut that fit around the KYB shocks in the front, did not fit the Tokico shocks. This kind of sucked. Fortunately, my godfather works at a (generally speaking) metal shop, and he was able to widen the holes for me. I sanded them down so that they don’t scratch the struts and figured I would be golden. I was wrong.

Now it was on the other side of the gland nut that I was having problems. The nut would not fit around the top of the strut, and therefore it would not go very deep into the strut tube. So I filed down the edge of the strut tube and sanded the inside lip of the gland nut. Unfortunately I was only able to do this on one of them, as I had already placed the other strut in the tube with ATF and could not pull it out. It is what it is.

I have undoubtedly enjoyed taking pictures of many people's cars here, free of charge. I've even emailed a few without my personal watermark for those who have been interested in the past. Today I come to you asking for a (small) favor in return.

I finally have a chance to make some $$ for my work.

My Z is in a photo contest being held by Windsor's Historical Society. The competition is called "This is where…" Please click the link below to see the photo, and vote for it, by selecting "Like" under the photo.
