Great, thanks for the feedback. I'll look into it.

Gave him a quick cleaning, then it was off to the hills to learn how to balance the car on an incline with the clutch and throttle.

Mom even got behind the wheel of it today! She was super impressed with the technology that was in my 30 year young car and not in her 10 year old Corolla! She hasn't driven a manual in at least 6 years, but man, she's still got it!

:D

Aww, absolutely stunning! From that angle I notice the gold stripe down the side, which wasn't obvious before ~ a really nice touch which I haven't seen before on other Zs. Your's might be unique?

Don't "balance" your Z on hills with the clutch. That burns it out really fast. Use the handbrake instead, thumb button held down and pressure up to prevent backward movement until you're ready to roll forward.

You really need to use that top picture (you washing the Z) as your avatar or something. Excellent. 8)

83/84 Justin ;)

Yes, it is. Can't remember the brand, but can find out. I like it.

Frank, just to make sure I'm "picking up what you're putting down":

So on a hill switch to first, hold the clutch in (?), and pull the ebrake without releasing the thumb button?

...I'll look into that! :)

Right. Uphill, select 1st gear, hold the clutch fully down. Pull up on the handbrake but keep your thumb depressing the release button. When the light changes, let the clutch up slowly until you feel it start to engage, then release the handbrake as you increase rpm. Just make a final check to ensure the brake is seated all the way OFF once you're underway.

Slipping the clutch is really bad for the friction surface and hard on the throwout bearing. You won't get away with that for a full Zeason.

Heyyyyy....... 8)

Yeah, the handbrake is a "holding brake", but not much of a "stopping brake". I just hate when the lady behind you pulls right up to your rear bumper while you're doing all this. :?

Hey now! That "lady" might be my sister!

...if she is, then floor it as fast as you can and get your car out of harm's way!

Hmm, I've only done the e-brake thing for really steep hills (back when I lived up near San Francisco...).

I couldn't skate the streets of San Francisco...let alone drive them.

Ah e good old ebrake hill start. I had to do one of those while taking my test for my drivers license. There are a lot of hills in Southbridge, MA. Seemed like every time I stopped I was on a damn hill. Boy was I nervous.

Took the Z out for an errand....promised myself it would be straight to the post office, and straight home. Made it to the post office, got back in the car. Saw the sun, got the t top off, base tube turned on....and let the cruise begin... "Last letter, first love."

EDIT: Got my first emphatic wave from a complete stranger today...red jetta drivers dig Z too, apparently ;)

You're gonna get a lot of Thumbs Up and waves from traffic ~ everybody loves the Z car. Its one of the rewards of owning one.

You'll make more friends without that bass booming thru people's neighborhoods, tho ~ it gives the Z a bad image, as if you were some kind of drug thug or something. The car draws enough POSITIVE attention itself, without you trying to draw anti-social disturb-the-peace attention with your vibes. 8)
