Well since I finally own a Z, I figured I would do a proper intro.

Since Sept 12, 2010, I have been the proud owner of a green 1978 280Z, VIN HLS30-477043.

She is rough, but not as rough as my last Z, and the previous owner had actualy started trying to patch up the holes.

As she stands, she doesn't run, and needs rocker panels and both front fenders, and a hole under the battery patched.

But for 400$, I am not about to complain!

Given how heartbroken I was about having to send away my last Z, I cannot even begin to put into words how much this car means to me, and how I cannot wait to finally drive it.....as I only got to drive the last one once.

I had a bunch of pics, but I have no idea what happened to them, so here's two from the day I went to go look at and eventually purchase the ol' gal!!

As of Wednesday, I received a 240Z ignition from Frank T, so hopefully once Mother Nature relaxes, I can pull the car out of storage and install it and figure why it won't turn over. ThankZ Frank!

You're welcome, Joe! Hope it works.

Spray some penetrating oil into each cylinder a couple of days before you intend to turn it over, just to make sure you don't break a ring unnecessarily. It'll smoke a little, but only briefly. If the starter doesn't turn it, try a breaker bar and deep socket back and forth GENTLY on the crank pulley nut.

I remember these photos! You published them here when you got the car, and we've discussed it at AirJockie's BBQs. Since then several of our members have become pretty good gunslingers with welding gear, so you might talk them into helping you replace some sheet metal.

This Club really is dedicated to giving every Z a chance at survival. Don't be afraid to ask for advice, help or spare partz as you get deeper into the project. You're our Z brother now ~ it's like a family thing.

Welcome aboard and let us know how we might help get this bad boy back on the road!

Frank

Hey, Mike, how close a cousin (VIN-wise) is this one to yours?

Not too close Rick. Mine is older. Built 12/77. Judging by his VIN I would say he is somewhere in 78. Mine starts 438 his starts 477.

Yeah, I see what you mean. My records are mainly on the 240/260,
and only go up to 1976. Based on the VINs' being almost 40,000 units'
difference, I would guess his must be a mid-1978.

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone! It seems as if Mother Nature is ready to relax for awhile, so in the next couple week I might actually be able to wheel her out of the garage and start the diagnosis process.
