King, I think from the above description that you ended up in one of the
Motor Vehicle Departments in the U.S. by mistake.

But you forgot three very important pieces of information. (1) At each
of the steps you enumerated, you stand in line for 2.5 hours, having to
go to the bathroom but you can't because you would lose your place and
would have to go to the back of the line. Then when you (2) approach
the counter, you are "greeted" by a friendly snarl from a surly individual
who forgets that it is you and I who are paying his/her paycheck. The
person acts (3) like he is doing you an enormous favor because he is
accommodating you at the expense of being late for his coffee break.

It used to be even worse years ago.

I so much agree with you on that Riccardo!

King, I never thought about that since Kathy never comes onto
the Z websites. If I see something that I think she would be
interested in reading, I call her over, but that's about it. So if
you see a post, I would have written it. But since she and I are
so close, I always include her in the sig. And since she is the
love of my life, I almost always put her first.

Don't get me wrong, she loves the Z's and goes to every event
with me. In fact, if it were not for her, the cars would still be in
the barn for another 30+ years. She is the one who "let the
cat out of the bag," as we say, by telling Phrog and Frank about
our cars at a Hot Rod cruise-in last Aug 10.

What a great Z-day! Package from MSA arrived at customs yesterday and i got it today.

Inside the package was new carpets and seatbelts! I instantly threw new carpets on place. I have to attach them tommorrow somehow.

Also i recieved envelope (again!!) from the one and only Membership Director Frank T!! Thanks for those nuts, those surely are needed!!

Somebody give a beer to Frank from me for all the trouble he had finding the parts and sending them

I'll send some photos soon

FINDING them in my cluttered garage was MUCH harder than sending them!

Thanks!

*(By the way, if you remove the wipers and paint them flat-black, and those wsw nuts too, you'll fall in love with the effect. The Z wipers and hold-down nuts should have always been flat black ~ they just look so much better that way. In the early 70s, the Porsche 911 was the first car to flat-black their wiper gear. Besides reducing sun glare, it looked wonderful on the car. My Z buddies of those days were quick to follow suit and insisted I do the same to my Z. I have never regretted it).

Z has made it's first actual journey. I drove it home from rented garage. It was quite exciting journey as the brakes are not working properly. Actually they are quite hidious. It was almost as riding in the back of kangaroo.

I cant do any major brake maintenance now as the car is not in garage, just under shelter. Situation will change soon.

Also the MSA seatbelts gave me new headache. As being quite tall, i have to pull the seat full back. With MSA new seatbelts i cant do that... see the pic related.

Yesterday we were taking a walk with our dogs. I havent noticed it before but area we are living is full of nice cars! One of the neighbours have new Corvette, another one have a Rover 2200 TC (link)

http://www.jagparts.nl/catalog/images/R ... rzijde.JPG

and one have Ford pickup from 50's. All this in one small block. There's some strange force in that area that forces you to buy classic car  Yesterday i took a little spin around the hood and i enjoyed the looks on peoples face  Sadly i have to take it to professional mechanic as i cannot make the rear brakes work.

Rev, I looked around for a brake master cylinder for your car and don't have one. The early cars were specific for those items; one year won't fit the other.

The white goop you showed inside your master cylinder and booster was the result of brake fluid leaking past the rear seal and mixing with moist air. The booster uses vacuum from the intake manifold to make the brakes work, and that vacuum can pull fluid out of the master cylinder, along the brake activator rod, and into the booster itself.

The booster should probably be replaced or rebuilt, as well.

When you remove the booster ("MasterVac"), tip it on its side and shake it. If you hear something rattling around inside, you must disassemble the unit and re-glue the rubber "hockey puck" inside. Your brakes will never work correctly if it has fallen off.

Also, someone with more experience than I have might advise you to blow out your brake lines with compressed air. Others might yell at me for advising that, and say it puts moisture in the lines.

Still others might recommend replacing or rebuilding the brake proportioning valve in the rear of the car, to make the rear brakes work.

I suspect the brake master cylinder is dead, and pushing air into the brakelines instead of brake fluid. But it's hard to diagnose from 8,000 miles away.

Do you know where he is?

I wonder if Customs would let him carry car parts back with him?

Isn't there a "pocket" under the carpet - built into the floor - that the seat belt retractor should go into? 240Z's built after 12/71 seemed to have them. What is the build date or VIN for your Z?

Or is the MSA unit simply too big to fit in the pocket?

FWIW,
Carl B.
