Great to hear this, truely superduper :!: So that looks like a true Euro Z there. Should have factory 5-speed. Yea?

I don't care what the traffic is like in Germany ~ Thor has the greatest job on the planet. He gets PAID to drive new and old cars and report on them. Here he reports on VW's new UP, which arrives in Europe this month.

And he gets to burn the cars he doesn't like! I'm sure he has a garage full of old Dodge Neons just waiting for fire extinguisher tests! 8)

Looks like a 260Z... circa 75-78? Thor will have to Post more detailed pictures!!

Thor - did you find out who bought that 72 at the Hershey Auction and had it shipped to Germany? A friend looked it over and said it was a very nice example.

260 yea, the later tail lights, 240 style bumber. As far as I know Europe had 5-speeds since the 240, maybe as an option. Can we have some more details on this Thor. :?:

Yes - Tail Lights and the two holes in the rear finisher below the bumper. What we call the 75-78 280Z is really the Z31 body. Sold in Europe, GB, and Austraila {as well as a few to other Countries} as 260Z's with the carb. L26

Only North America got the 75-78 280Z with F.I. - we had the strictest "enforced" emissions standards in the world. Of course 86% of all Z's sold were sold here as well.

Post subject:  260 2+2, GB

Oh sorry guys for my late reply.
I had to test and destroy a few Neons...
:D

Yes you all are right. The silver Z in my garage is a 260 2+2 from 1976. This car is from GB. Marco a friend and Nissan dealer here in Bühl (http://www.wild.nissan-haendler.de/) bought it a couple of years ago. The Z was in bad conditions and required a complete restoration. 260 2+2's are not very popular here because of the "kink" at the B-pillar. It's an european version. I think this version was never sold in the US. Its a 5-speed.
The owner installed Ztherapy carbs last year. Car runs great. I will post more pics later.
Marco visited the Nissan Zama heritage museum in Japan two weeks ago. I will post some pics of this marvelous collection soon.

Hi Carl, I could not find out who bought the car at the Hershey Auction. I'll keep trying. In the meantime I've met a guy who imported a 240 Z last year. He started restoration a few months ago. Attached some pics.

 Wow! I have NEVER seen anything like that last picture before! The engine, front suspension, driveline and rear suspension all hung together like that, outside the car, as if the car had a frame! Very enlightening.

Is it a late 1971 automatic? Maybe a 1972, looking at the dashboard. I can't tell from the center console.

Please tell your new friend about us!

Frank

Hi Thor:
Good to hear from you - as always. Thanks for the pictures of your Friend's 240Z, you'll have to keep us informed as the Project progresses. If you think about it - let me know what the VIN is on that car.

I don't know if you saw it or not - but I finished Kelly's 240Z last month - and he picked it up just after Thanks-Giving. {You met Kelly at the Convention in Nashville}.

Hi Frank:
70/71 Center Console has the Ash Tray ahead of the Shift Lever - 72/73 has the Ash Tray behind the shift lever.

The 73's have the Hazard Warning Switch with the Lighted Green Knob above the Cig. Lighter - the 72's have the smaller lever below the Cig. Lighter.

So I'd guess that is a 72 A/T. Looks like a little bit of rust - but I don't seen anything super serious..

It's a fantastic restoration. A wonderful 240 Z, a rebirth. Kelly will have much fun with that first class Z. Please tell her that I said hello.

March 2012:

I just had to revisit this Post, to become its twenty-two THOUSANDTH viewer!

Yes, Thor's New Member Intro now officially has 22,000 views! That's by far the most interest in any new join in our Club's history.

In fact, it's the 2nd most-viewed subject on our Club Website! Only the discovery of HLS30-00013 has had more views, with 27,000+.

But Thor's Intro has had more than 340 replies, making it the most-talked- about subject in our Club's history! That's over 100 more replies than Lucky#13 has got.

If you estimate roughly 600 CTZCC members world-wide, that means each of us has read Thor's Post an average of 36 times, and more than half of us have made comments!

I know companies which pay BIG MONEY for advertiZing, to get that kind of attention!

I'm mighty impressed. Thanks so much each and everyone of you for your interest in that never ending "journey". This thread is like a book. The last chapter is not yet written. Fortunately. New Z-adventures are waiting. Keep on running :D
