Hey: The 240z is on it's way to germany. This fine car will hopefully have a good journey and a talented Captain. There is a funny family waiting for him with plenty of excitement: between them 3 sometimes bugging dogs and a madman who's polishing his 240 z die-casts in joyful anticipation.

I have a picture of the truck which picked it up today. Like to see it? O.K. but how can I post the picture here?
It's really funny!

I can't wait to zee your new car! :D I bet you get very little sleep before it arrives there (and much less AFTER it arrives! You will be sitting in it, and polishing it, and sleeping in it all winter!)

To leave a picture on this website, you should do this:

1. Start a Post in the normal way;
2. When you have finished typing, look at the bottom of your screen. Instead of pressing "SUBMIT", press the balloon which says "CHOOSE FILE". That will open your computer's photo library;
3. Select the photo(s) you want to attach to your Post, and press them;
4. You can press "PREVIEW" to see how your Post will look with the picture in it. You can also type some comments in the big, empty blue box. Those comments will appear on your photo;
5. Then press "SUBMIT" to send your Post with the picture attached.
6. You can send three pictures with each Post by pressing "ADD ATTACHMENT" to add each photo.

If you have trouble, we'll help you. Good Luck!

Hi, Thorsten, Rick here.

WOW! What a GREAT looking Z! It looks like you won't have to do much
to it, if anything. That looks exactly like our '70 when we bought it:
Color Code 918 burnt orange, bumper overrider bars..........the only
difference seems to be the wheel rims. Ours were originally slotted
dish aluminum rims.

BTW (by the way), that front overrider to me is an absolute necessity.
The design of the car is beautiful, but the peak of the hood sticks out
to the same degree as the peak of the bumper. Consequently it gets
backed into frequently by parallel parkers who like to "park by ear"
as we say. Because of my experiences I would almost call it a "design
defect." All of my Z's have suffered that minor but irritating damage
at least once each, so I would STRONGLY recommend not removing it!!

Phil, the car will be delivered at December 14th. The journey over the atlantic takes about 14 days, plus 5 days customs.
Slow and steady wins the race.....

Hi Rick! Yes, I will not remove it. I know about the risk.
Here are some more pictures, that means I try to post them.

Oh yes, Carl did a fantastic job.

TheZman, don't despond. There are also things to do, I have shown you the
"chocolate side". Here is the other side of the coin, but it's harmless, thank godness... : :D

still a beautiful car. but it wouldn't be a Z if you didn't have something to do. and it will bond you closer to the car doing the work yourself. i know i have alot to do but i know in the end i will have something to be proud of. seeing cars like yours is what keeps a Z guy like me driven to finish mine. if i am ever in Germany i would love to take a spin in the Z.

Oh, good! You will be able to work on your car and establish the bond which only comes from skinned knuckles and sweat!

That's what makes the car "yours".

Still, that's only one season of work remaining to be done, and you can still drive it while you fix it.

You'll have the rest of your life to enjoy it!

Hi Thorsten, Rick again.
I noticed some things about your car:

There is no rear bumper overrider bar, but that is not nearly as
critical as the front, which I explained earlier.

The dashboard mat~ was the dash cracked, or is this for protection?

The center console armrest is a nice factory option which not only
provides some comfort but also conceals some small items.

The "parcel bar" at the front of the cargo deck is also a nice factory
option. I don't know why it had to be an option because it is so
practical, other than cost cutting so the Z could be introduced at a
low price. It really does keep things from flying forward into the
seat backs, or worse yet, between the seats, in an abrupt stop!

The air cleaner box is from a '72 or '73 because it has the carburetor
pre-heater selector switch on the nozzle.

Several of us, including Carl and Frank, have a very great interest in
low VIN (vehicle identification) numbers. Would you share what your
Z's VIN # and production date are when your car arrives? Thanks!

Hi Rick,

the manufacture date is 12/70.
The VIN is: HLS30-16506, so it's a 71' car, I think.
The car was ordered in 1971 from Ocala Nissan with dealer options:
- basket chrome steel rims
- A/C
- front bumper guard
- interior luggage bar
- center console arm rest

And it has this major components:
- 0.020 oversize pistons
- Brass valve seats (for unleaded fuel)
- 1983 5-speed and custom shifter
- Custom 3.90:1 R-180 open differential (Jason Jasinski of Barb Sharp Racing fame)
- Rotary compressor with R134a, custom condenser and electric cooling
- 4- row radiator with electric cooling
- 1976 280Z 60 amp alternator – externally regulated
- Pertronix pointless ignition
- 16” Panasport rims
- 1” front anti-sway bar
- 7/8” rear anti-sway bar
- Relocated differential 1” back with associated hardware required
- Motorsports long headers with silver ceramic coating inside and out (with air injectors)
- Jim Cook Racing stainless muffler
- 2.5” exhaust with resonator
- Battery with positive and negative in opposite location from factory (for safety)

And I have these informations:
1. The former owner (Dale later, his father first) had the car since 71.

2. The engine has been professionally rebuilt, Dale installed an 83

5spd. and a rebuilt 3.9 rear end.

3. The car has it's original engine, with ceramic coated headers and

dual exhaust

4. Electric cooling fans have been installed in place of the

mechanical fan {common in Florida heat}

5. Dealer Installed A/C, has been upgraded to a newer rotary type

compressor & converted to R134a

6. Front and Rear Anti-sway bars installed

7. PannaSport 16" Aluminum wheels and new Perillie Tires

8. Brakes completely gone though - everything new a few years ago.

9. 60 amp internally regulated alternator installed

10. Z-Therapy Remanufactured Carb's installed
11. Seats rebuilt with new foam and vinyl from Motorsports auto

"All-Z-Best" Thorsten :)

Hello All! Very nice late series one car!

It won't take much to make this car picture perfect for sure, I have seen MUCH worse examples.

BTW, the valve cover and air cleaner are correct for a 16,000 VIN car. Also note the brake booster tap going to the top of the crossover tube instead of the rear. Some of the late changes in series one production as I understand it.

And IMO, I NEVER liked the look of the bumper overrider bars, front or rear. Functional yes, ugly for sure!

Best of luck Thor, keep us posted on your progress!

Oh, that's WONDERFUL. This car has had everything already done to it! I'm very glad you have a 5spd ~ it makes a world of difference on the highway. You'll be very happy indeed!

All I can think of to add would be a front chin spoiler. These cars get very "light" in the nose, at any speed above 75mph. A simple, inexpensive chin spoiler (a "spook", in racing parlance) nails the nose to the road and makes the entire experience feel better and safer.

Until you install one, you can also try popping the hood open onto the safety catch while driving fast. It won't open, since the hood is hinged backward. But that relieves air pressure under the hood and lets you drive a bit faster before the front end gets "light".

I also notice your radio antenna does not retract "down" as it should when the car is off. You should push it down before speeding ~ it can bend in the wind.

Gee Thorsten, you've got me really excited about your car! I can picture you (or ME! ) blasting down the Autobahn, getting waves from everyone you pass!

Eat some Porsches for us, please! They are a Z car's favorite food!

Frank
