Do you mean 'cost effectively'? It doesn't sound very motivating the way you put it

Frank you are correct, that is what I get trying to quickly post without the boss seeing.

OK Guys don't shoot me but..... 2 or 3 years ago I had an 83 Turbo rust bucket that someone gave me. I was going to fix it for my son but the rust weas rteal bad. I thought about pulling the drive train for a swap into my car but chickened out. This is of course before I met you guys and now I am kicking myself. I sold it to a guy in Canada on ebay for a grand. I would love to talk about what we need to do to actually do this.
FYI - The rear spoiler was purchase at Bob Sharp motors in Ct back in 1980 or so.. Drove up there to hold it up to the car to see if I liked it... Got a good close up look at Newmans racer in the garage

Don't feel bad, PJ ~ most of us suffer from the memories of Missed Opportunities. It's amaZing how much smarter we become with age! Also, when we were younger, few of us had enough "spare money" () to pursue such dreams.

Ive occasionally wondered what the 3.0L ZX engine would do in the early 240Z? They can be built up to some impressive HP figures, and they really don't weigh that much. The L24/26/28 weighs about 600lbs all together, so the little V6 3.0L should snug right in there and save some weight as well.

I'll probably be branded a heretic, but what's wrong w/a 302 (5 liter)
Ford? It's a smaller and lighter block than the SBC, and can be gotten
readily w/a 5-speed and lately a 6-speed. I know we're not talking
hybrid Z's but the thought just crossed my mind while reading the above
options, since the block is so tiny it can fit most anything.

I think you're OK Rick. It's not like you mentioned DARGE (Mopar). I think you're reading my mind. Although I would prefer a beastly turbocharged IL 6 to keep the car somewhat original IF I were ever to go V8. I would probably aslo go Ford mostly because theres a guy in town who has a lets say....... 03-04 cobra (Mustang) with a s/c 4.7 and man does it sound hot aside from the fact that it probably goes rather well  Unfortunately until the economy balances out a little and people start buying jewelry again I will have to settle for my 2.8 I6 with every imaginable bolt on pushing under 200 HP. I'm sure that between this forum and Saturdays meeting we can all come up with some good ideas.. See you al tomorrow. I can't wait.

There is obviously only one solution to this quandry....

Forget the 302, you know its begging for a 7.0l V10

Well that's interesting. Quite a project though, and I bet costly. Well Rick, maybe someone in this club will buy my 302 sittin in the garage, rebuilt with 38,000 miles on it. Also have an auto tranni that goes with it, it's an iron core unlike the all aluminums out there. Came out of an old Thunderbird. You can just drop it in, or build it up with some Cleavland heads, and have a Boss 302. Also can be changed to a Windsor firing order, (crank and cam, I believe,) then it would be a 302 Boss high output. $500 for it all would be good enough for me. Engine even has some chrome on it. :D

Well, that's all very nice.

But getting back to Paui (remember Paul? He's the guy who originally tried to introduce himself here on this NEW MEMBER INTRO thread, before we started talking about everything EXCEPT him! ) PAUL, Let's hear your thoughts about the Annual Fall Outing? And sorry for letting these Pirates hijack your INTRODUCTION!

Thanks Frank, First of all the outing was GREAT. So glad to Zee <<< (like that?) that there are so many Z nuts like myself in the area. They're actually coming out of the wood work and I love it. It's funny how so many of us use the word "Awesome" and don't even realize it. I believe the word awesome was brought in for the ZX ads. I do need to bring my wife to one of these outings mainly to show her that there are people much crazier about their cars than I. Not by much but it may help just a little.
I don't mind the engine piracy at all.. always looking for ideas to make my ZX better and mostly faster. Its pretty sad that my wife's Sonata V6 has more HP than my ZX. But it doesnt handle nearly as well..
Thanks again guys for a great outing and for having me..
Paul

LOL. This is EXACTLY how I caught the "Z needs more power" disease.

You are bitten and infected my friend!

Well lets see how long that Sonata goes before needing some work done on it. Well, unfortuantly the 79 was the slowest of the ZX models, It was more about the emmisions I suspect. Not shure about 1980, but from 81-83 the F54 flat top block used with the P79 head was much quicker than any 79 I had. So if your ever looking to upgrade, I have one F54 block for sale, I also have some P79 heads unless you want the N42 head. In my garage on an engine stand is my personal F54 block with the N42 head sittin on top, this is my future 240Z engine set up. This combo is a 10:1 compression. Of course there is the Turbo option, in your case, but for me I want the 240 to look stock.
