First I am saying thank you in advance as I am sure I will have alot of questions on the forum in the future, also thanks Greg for turning me on to youe site.
I aquired a 280zx scca race car. The engine is fresh on the stand the cage and body need work and whole thing needs to be put tougher. The car also needs to go on a diet and I plan on replacing the front fenders hood and front air dam/splitter all in fiberglass and the glass w/ lexan.
Allthough I have helped develop 5 race cars for a friend(2 porsches ,busch n car ,word spors racer, 7/8 monte carlo ,rx7) and crewed for a Porsche cup team at the Rolex 24 at Daytona I am sure there is much to learn about this car. I will be relying on the experence of the members of the z club to help me get the car done with minimal pain.
I also have a Tr6..........sorry (my first car when I was 16) which needs attention. You know how it goes no time or $.
I have tons of spares (some race) which I plan on selling to help finance this project.I hope to post them soon
I'll keep you updated...............Johnny

Hi Johnny, and WELCOME!

It's strange that you present this now ~ just last month some of us attended the Vintage races at Lime Rock and I posted a complaint that we saw NO (Zero/Nada) Datsun ZX cars racing, in spite of their clear advantages over the Old School 240Zs in horsepower and aerodynamics. The earliest ZX carz are now old enough to qualify for VIntage and one of our members is building one as we speak, but we saw none of them present during this year's event.

What year is yours? What engine modifications do you hope your budget will allow, and what zeason do you hope to be track-ready for?

Yeah, I agree ~ I suspect you're gonna get a LOT of questions in here!

Frank, the previous owner had just finished the engine. He spent some $3000 plus on forged pistons Carillo rods and extensive head work on a square port head. The motor is on the stand now and all I have to do is go through the numerous boxes to find the pan ,distributor etc. Of course everyone has their preference on how things are done so I will need to look at how the oil cooler and oil fitlters are plumbed, general under the hood work. The car itself needs some tlc. I need to look at the cage and add additional cross bracing in the rear and move the drivers side bars out into the door NASCAR style (we just finished a full cage in my friends 944 turbo). Then we move on to the body work updates.I hope to have the car ready for track days or scda events late next summer as a platform to help further develop the car. I would then competitvely race the car the following year .

Welcome! New guy here as well. Can't wait to see the project, sounds like it is going to be a blast when finished.

Cheers,
-Cameron
