Today (10/10/10), Thor is blasting over the Alps in his 1970 240Z for the first time! :D LUCKY BOY!!!

Thor, if your car feels bad at cold altitude, remember you have a WINTER/SUMMER door on your air cleaner box.

I can't wait to zee some pictures of this event.

Frank, we had to postpone our trip and will start on Friday 15th through Sunday 17th. We will shoot tons of pics!

BWT:
I saw that at my car sthg's missing:
# 59-876 (Dragon)
DOOR SILL EDGE SEAL-BODY 2 REQ
Where do you have to fix that seal? Is it necessary?

I'm glad you all guyZ had a wonderful Fall outing!
I would have love to be present. Next time!

If 59-876 is that rubber strip which sits on top of the door in the hinge area, YES, it is important. Without it, water can enter the cabin above your left knee.

Post subject:  Trip to Italy

Tomorrow morning we will start. Destination: Seis am Schlern, Dolomites.
Weather Forecast: light snowfall at Brenner Pass. Who cares? Heating? Is operating! Snow Tires? They (Austrians) will not snap us. Please keep your fingers crossed for us.

Well, I spent a lot of time today thinking about Thor driving his 1970 240Z thru the Alps. I envy him.

The weather is tricky and unpredictable in the Alps (I'm not speaking from experience, only from memory of old 1940s and 50s road races held there). The Z should be equal to anything mother nature throws at it, except deep snow and long icy roads.

We're thinking of you, Thor! Viel Glueck!

Fly the Z banner proudly up there in the clouds.

Thor have a great drive! Your Z will be able to cope with the alps well! (I hope they don't use salt as your beautiful z doesn't deserve that sort of stuff )
I drove my z over the alps when I got it, i had to go up to over 2000m in cold humid weather, and as I don't have winter-summer door, it did struggle quite a bit in the humid cold thin air but went through just fine. of course my heating doesn't work, but it wasn't too cold, seems like the cabin gets heated by engine and exhaust..

Post subject:  Trip to Italy across the Alpes

Friends, we are back home again.
Was a great trip: 1000 mls, 4 countries (Ger, Austria, Italy, Swizzerland), 4 Alpine Passes, some snow and a lot of fun.
The Z ran great, without any problems. The car stomached that hard exercise with dignity!!

Attached a pic of my Z on top of the Timmelsjoch (the most legendary alpine pass between Austria and Italy)

Wow, how beautiful! This is where a Z belongs ~ happy and free in the Tyrolean Alps. What a great way to bond with your car, Thor ~ you will never, ever forget this experience.

How did your brakes hold up? Is it time to replace them now?

Brakes are still o.k., I think I will need a new manifold seal. And the differential is rattling a bit. But not alarming.
The pre owner, Dale, sent me a pic of my Z from 1980. Look at the wheels.

If those are Borrani wire wheels and they came with the car, you got
your money's worth right there. The trouble is, it is a full time job
trying to keep them clean and shiny.

Post subject:  barn found in Australia

O.k., it's not a z car but something like a spiritual father: the Nissan Silvia Coupe CSP311. Only 554 cars were built, 49 went to Australia, 10 in the rest of the world, a rather rare tiny handmade coupe. Supposedly four cars still exist in the US, there was one car in Sweden, which was sold years ago. It's lost. Now - by happenstance - I've heard about a car, which was for sale a few weeks ago in Sydney. I asked my sister in law (she lives there) to contact the seller. The car is almost complete, from 1966. It was stored for 24 years in a barn in Tasmania. What should we do? Only one answer: take it! There will not be another chance so fast. Not I - Gabi stopped me - but a friend, Marco, he's a Nissan dealer, owner of a 260Z and a 300 ZX and he helped me to restore my car. Now we are excited what is rolling out of the vessel after a 60 day journey.
Another exciting adventure.
