We are in the process of scrubbing our club database, which has been in use since 2005. One issue is that it has been configured to capture only TWO Z cars per member and many of us have more than two! We have now expanded the database and our on-line joining form to accomodate up to FOUR Z cars. We know that there are a few members that own more than four Z cars (most of these members are divorced) and we will handle those updates manually. But for the 98% of you that have four or less, we ask that you re-submit an application listing all of your cars. Please also enter in all other information in case addresses, telephone numbers have changed.

This will literarly take less than a minute and will result in our database being much more complete and up to date. Please click on the link below to resubmit your information:

This is a good thing. The new database also provides for overseas registrations, which the older one didn't. And with our eight current overseas members, this has become necessary.

We use this info to better serve the membership by anticipating and projecting our Club's needs in time to prevent them from becoming problems.

As always, your privacy is of great importance to us. Your personal information will not be shared with ANYONE, not even other members, without your personal prior approval. Our database is not sold or shared. Nobody has access to the CTZCC database except your officers. If you want someone else to know your personal contact info, you have to tell them yrslf. We like it that way.

We will, however, brag about your Z car. It's important to most of us to know the NUMBER of different Zs we have in our Club. It's nobody's business WHO owns them, or how many each member owns.
But it helps serve the needs of the Club if we know how many of you own 240Zs, or convertibles, or G-noses, or 2+2s, or 260Zs, or 370Zs, etc. And the total number of Zs in this Club is well over 500, but that count is nearly a year old and needs this new provision to be accurate.

This simple data update will replace our earlier request for you to contact Phil Parent with this new info ~ no need to do that now; you can enter the data yrslf and let Phil resume his other duties.

Thanks again for everyone's cooperation in keeping the CTZCC accurate, vibrant and growing.

Feel free to ask any Qs you might have.

Frank

Thanks, Ross and Frank, that's a good idea.
I do have a few "Q's" for you; hopefully you have "A's."

1. Do you want for the database to contain only Z Car info, or is it OK
for guys like Vinny and me to "register" our other "classics" as well? If
so, how would we go about doing that?

2. I notice the registration format only allows for 1970-to-date, which
would exclude 3 of our cars. I know that would be the rare exception,
but I know I represent at least 3 other guys............

3. Can the "car(s) owned" portion of the database be made available to
the membership? It would help slow thinkers like me to associate a car
with its owner, or vice versa. Like trying to put a name with a face.....
I don't think that would be akin to leaking classified info, since several
members have that info in their signature block anyway. Perhaps a
better avenue would be to provide, in the application, a means for the
member to "opt out" if he/she so chose.

4. I probably have about 100 more "Q's" to ask, but no more come to
mind right at this moment...................

Hi Rick,

Questions are always good and thank you for them! I've inserted answers in CAPS under each of your questions below:

Kathy & Rick wrote:

AS THE CLUB HAS GROWN WE'VE STARTED TO RECEIVE INFORMATION FROM MEMBERS ON ALL TYPES OF DATSUNS/NISSANS. IT STARTED WITH 510'S, THEN ROADSTERS, THEN INFINITY G35'S, ETC. THE FINAL "NAIL IN THE COFFIN" IS WHEN PEOPLE STARTED REGISTERING NISSAN ALTIMAS! THE OFFICERS HAVE DISCUSSED THIS TREND AND HAVE DECIDED TO RE-DEDICATE OUR FOCUS TO THE Z CAR. SO WE ARE PROUD TO HAVE MEMBERS THAT OWN ALL OF THESE OTHER VEHICLES, THEY ARE WELCOME AT OUR EVENTS BUT WE DO NOT WANT TO STRAY FROM BEING A "Z" CLUB. SO TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTION, WE ONLY WANT APPLICATION INFORMATION ON Z'S.

2. I notice the registration format only allows for 1970-to-date, which
would exclude 3 of our cars. I know that would be the rare exception,

WE WOULD LIKE MEMBERS TO SUBMIT THE OFFICIAL YEAR THAT THEIR VEHICLE WAS "SOLD AS". THIS MAY DIFFER FROM THE YEAR OF THE BUILD DATE. SO 1970 IS THE FIRST YEAR OF THE Z.

3. Can the "car(s) owned" portion of the database be made available to
the membership? It would help slow thinkers like me to associate a car
with its owner, or vice versa. Like trying to put a name with a face.....

A WORTHY GOAL BUT THIS WOULD BE A SIGNIFICANT EFFORT INVOLVING PRIVACY ISSUES AND TECHNOLOGY ISSUES. NOT SOMETHING THAT WE WANT TO BITE OFF RIGHT NOW.

4. I probably have about 100 more "Q's" to ask, but no more come to
mind right at this moment...................

All Z Best,............................Kathy & Rick

Rick, there are some owners who might not want the world to know which cars they have (or how many) for insurance or security reasons. There's nothing in our policies which prohibit individual owners from proudly proclaiming what they own, if they wish. But it's up to them to tell the world about their individual Zs, not us.

When we are eventually able brag about how many Zs we have in this Club, and the numbers of each model, the individual owners' names won't be revealed. It will be the numbers we broadcast.

It's more comfortable that way. We're really very serious about the individual member's privacy. We're willing to go a long way to avoid offending anyone's trust, and I know for certain we enjoy the company of many of our members who wouldn't stay with us if our privacy policies were less serious.

In our old database, we had two graphs which listed the 1969 cars. I personally feel the 500-or-so very early Zs are important enough to deserve that distinction, and I will ardently propose such a provision at our next officers' meeting.

Frank

Thanks for your responses, Ross and Frank.

I'm not trying to be a rabble rouser. Those who know me, know that
if I have an idea or suggestion I try to propound it in as amicable a way
as possible, so as to elicit discussion which leads to eventual acceptance
or rejection. The reason I contribute is for the purpose of improving
whatever is "on the table," so that when it comes "off the table" it might,
in turn, impact some facet of the Club in some meaningful way.

I understood Frank's well-presented treatise on security and privacy,
and certainly could not and would not argue it. That is why I had made
mention of an "opt-out" provision. An "opt-in" provision would work
equally well, I think, but in the opposite direction. FWIW.

Yes, we want ALL members to re-submit their applications so that we can make sure that our database has correct information. Thanks

This is working well! :D

We are being flooded by updates each day. I am slowly sending acknowledgements to each member when your info has been updated in our database. There are doZens I haven't got to yet, so bear with me and be patient, please. You will be acknowledged in turn.

Happily complicating my efforts is a sudden flood of NEW JOINS, who are coming aboard for the first time. This is great!

What a wonderful Club.

If you haven't already updated your info, please do so soon. This information is important. You will receive a brief "thank you" email when your info has been updated.

We can already zee that we have more than 555 Z cars in this Club! I suspect the total number will be closer to 600!

Frank
