I hope you all enjoyed last week's "April Fool's" version of our newsletter. No...car # 13 is not being parted out, the chairman of Toyota did not join our club, RI is not actually an island, CT did not pass a law requiring bench seats be installed in pre-1990 cars and our webmaster is not moving to Idaho to make Vodka.

Now for some realclub news:

Upcoming Meeting: Keith Hultmark will be hosting and coordinating our first meeting of the season on Wednesday April 14th at Island Cove Marina in Old Saybrook. If you haven't been to the Marina yet, it is an awesome location for a Z gathering! Food and drinks will be provided at no charge. Bring your Z and a smile!

Preliminary Club Schedule: We have a packed schedule of meetings and events this year, which can be viewed at http://www.ctzcc.com/schedule.html. Meeting dates are locked in (always the second Wednesday of the month) but some of the event dates may change as the season progresses. We are looking forward to our third annual car show, our third outing at Lime Rock Park and our fifth Fall Outing in October. We have tried our best to get the major events of other regional Z clubs on the schedule as well - so please participate in as many of those that you can. Get some or all of these dates on your calendar before the spouse fills them with weddings and funerals of relatives you barely know!

East Coast Z Nationals: On May 22nd and 23rd, six regional Z clubs will be hosting the first East Coast Z Nationals as part of Import Kit Nationals at the Carlisle PA Fairgrounds. The hosting clubs include the White Rose Z Club, Maryland Z Club, East Coast Z Association, New Jersey Z Car Club, Z Association of NY and of course us! The event will include a Peoples Choice car show on Saturday and a track event on Sunday at the Quarter Ace Drag way in Mount Holly Springs, PA. The show entry fee includes food and trophies will be awarded to the top cars in each vintage category. Rooms have been reserved at the Hotel Carlisle for $111.00 per night http://www.facebook.com/l/138c2;www.hotelcarlisle.com. This is one of the nicer hotels in the area and does not require a two night minimum. Rooms can be reserved under the name “East Coast Z Association” and must be booked by April 22nd. The hotel has plenty of parking and space for trailers.

A social get together is planned for Saturday night in the hotel lounge following the car show. Flyer: http://www.facebook.com/l/138c2;www.pho ... Nflier.JPG

ANYONE INTERESTED IN PRE-REGISTERING, PLEASE SHOOT ME AN E-MAIL AND I WILL SEND YOU THE FORM.

Club Calendar: It's not too late to buy a CTZCC club calendar and they are available for only $19.99 plus shipping at http://www.cafepress.com/CTZCC.425561267. A portion of each sale goes to benefit the club to help pay for future activities and food. These may not be available at meetings and events so please order directly from Cafepress!

Member Rides: Have you seen the Member Rides section lately? It has exploded with new pictures and now boasts 185 albums of Z's! Is your ride there? If yes, how about some new pictures? If no, and you don't already have an ID and password (they are different from the Discussion Forum ID/password) send an e-mail to webmaster@ctzcc.com with your name and the password you would like to use. Our webmaster will then set you up and confirm via e-mail. Once you have an ID and password, just go to the Member Rides section, login and upload your pictures! See all the rides at: http://www.ctzcc.com/rides.shtml.

That's all for now! Ross

Hahaha! Ross, we are STILL getting emails about that April Fool's Newsletter, which a LOT of people actually believed!

Most disturbing news seemed to be the "parting out of Lucky #13", which infuriated many many purists and generated some VERY interesting mail! Nice work ~ you "hooked" a lot of people on that one!

Actually, Lucky#13 is presently being refreshed by an extremely competent and dedicated life-long Z mechanic. After 30 years of pretty stagnant 'retirement', #13 is getting all her (his?) routine maintenance done at once. With 100,000 miles on the clock, you can imagine this is extensive.

Extreme effort is being made to keep everything as original as possible, while making sure the earliest-VIN 240Z is made roadworthy again after 30 years of storage. Any original part which can be repaired, is being lovingly cleaned, polished, and reused. Those parts which are common-replacement items (plugs, filters, brakes, bushings, etc) are being replaced with top-of-the-line materials. No 'updates' so far, but they are possible as time goes on. This is NOT a restoration ~ this is routine maintenance to make the car safe to drive. Some items have failed over the years, as might be expected, and will have to be rebuilt (master and slave cylinders, for example).

Also, there were two quarter-sized rust spots on the car, one behind each front wheel. Those areas are carefully being repaired and the color scheme will not be effected.

When the car comes out of the "Z-hospital", Rick will be sure to update us on the 'new' #13. He expects to drive it to events and meetings as conditions allow, and he hopes to show it at the upcoming National Z Convention in TN this summer, if he can figure a way to afford that trip.

I hope everyone can breathe easier now! The automotive Grandfather of the Z cars will remain intact for at least another few decades! (My only personal question is what to insure it for??!!)

Great jokes, Ross!
Frank
