Here is a very well done video of a real Z enthusiast who rebuilt and auto-crossed his beautiful 1970 3.1L Datsun 240Z out in Washington State. Includes some interesting "off course" excursions as well. Enjoy! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zIhQ0_njKEw |

Wow, thanks for that! This is Mark Haag's Oct'70 #11518 car. As much as I admire his achievement, I find myself admiring his bank account even more! 297bhp on the dyno! Nearly 265hp at the rear wheels! What a rush that must be! Note he looses about 33hp btwn the flywheel and the rear wheels, after all the accessories and driveline have been installed. On a purpose-built racer that gives us an idea of how much of our stock 151bhp might actually reach the rear wheels on our stock 240Zs. He only looses about 11% but we can count on losing more than that, stock. He runs a 3.1L 13:1 compression engine with Webers. He doesn't mention the cam or what headers he uses. Many 3.1L builds hit 300hp and I suspect his is capable of that if he wants it. Wish he had mentioned what differential gears he uses. Frank |
