Nissan Datsun Z "Fairlady Z" [Full Car Documentary] For those who may not have seen this 47 min. documentary, and even those who have, I thought this an appropriate place to post this ..... I just re-watched this for about the 4th or 5th time. I know it's from 1995 but hey, this is winter time and we're all in need of a Z-fix to get us thru until the Zeason restarts. This documentary flick covers the introduction and evolution of the Z, with insights into the thinking behind the Z plan ("Project X"). The introduction of the 240Z to the USA was both a combination of careful planning and foresight, but also pure dumb luck that the exact right man (Yutaka Katayama) was sent to America to spearhead the success of Japan's new sportscar. It's sometimes difficult (for me) to envision the Z NOT ONLY as the car which put Datsun on the American car map, but which actually put JAPAN ITSELF on the American car map. But that's exactly what it did. John's excellent contribution to our Video Vault includes interviews with Mister K, John Morton, Bob Sharp, Johnny O'Connell, and racing footage of Paul Newman and Bob Sharp Racing's original #0006 car in red livery. It even has some footage about the Albrecht Goertz design myth! Well worth the time to watch it (again) and enjoy a cup of coffee. |
