My condolences. I ride too and I can't count the amount of times I've nearly been run over or off the road by someone who wasn't paying attention. If anything else, learning to ride a bike the right and safe way will make you a much better driver in the end. But still, as in Colin's case, sometimes all the training and safe riding in the world won't save you from a careless driver.

What burns me up the most is that she was a repeat violator yet still has a license. And the charges mentioned in the article are extremely light for negligently killing someone. She needs jail time, and the ability to drive shouldn't be returned to her once she's released. Ever.

Even though this entire event is still incredibly tragic, at least Colin died doing something he loved. Though I really didn't have the time to get to know him well, he was a great guy and will be missed.

Rest in Peace.

“Love is stronger than death even though it can't stop death from happening, but no matter how hard death tries it can't separate people from love. It can't take away our memories either. In the end, life is stronger than death.”

My thoughts and prayers go to Coiln and his family. What a beautiful person to lose to such carelessness.
I hate to be like this, but justice must be served.

This is ridiculously sad. My sincere condolences to the family.

I was probably the new member who introduced himself to the Colin trio at LimeRock last summer. I remember both Colin and Robin being incredibly warm and friendly. We shared the details of their amazing restoration. I was impressed by the strong bond between father and son. I am completely shocked and disheartened by this news.

I think the club needs to do something in Colin's name to promote driver safety and education. This kind of thing is completely pointless and avoidable! I remember being a crazy young car and motorcycle driver in CT. A little bit of education will go a long way!!!

Rest In Peace Colin!

SHOCK!!! No other way to describe it. Our computer has been acting up
and I just got a snippet this morning when the computer went out again.

Then I saw Vinny, Scott, and Steve today, and was devastated once
again when they told me what I had not been able to read earlier.

There isn't a thing I could add to what has already been said. All I can
ask is WHY? Can you visualize a former Paratrooper/Ranger/Martial
Arts guy in tears? That is my condition as I write this.

I wish that this girl had been in Texas instead. She would have had her
license revoked, served time, and been fortunate to ever drive again.

And that much, MUCH earlier, and after MANY fewer flagrant offenses.

Our dear brother will be greatly missed, but never forgotten.

With heavy hearts,.......................Kathy & Rick

With my deepest sympathy.
Reading this thread you anticipate what a friend Colin was to everyone of you.

This is difficult to translate but it comes from my heart:

Es gibt nichts, was die Abwesenheit
eines geliebten Menschen ersetzen kann.
Je schöner und voller die Erinnerung,
desto härter die Trennung,
aber die Dankbarkeit schenkt
in der Trauer eine stille Freude.
Man trägt das vergangene Schöne
wie ein kostbares Geschenk in sich.
(Dietrich Bonhoeffer)

Loosely translated, this says:

Nothing can replace the absence of loved humans.
The more beautiful and full the memory, the harder the separation.
But personal mourning gives a grateful and quiet peace.
One carries the past like a precious gift in itself.
(Deitrich Bonhoeffer

Thank you, Thor, that's beautiful and appropriate.
Colin was a bright spark in each of our lives. Some of us knew him better than others did. We each looked forward to seeing him again at every Club event. He and his Dad were inseparable, and traveled to CT from neighboring Rhode Island to share fun, laughter and love of these cars. Robin (Dad) and Colin (Son) had bought and restored several old 240Zs to perfect condition ~ together. They shared an enviable partnership which any of us would have wanted with our own fathers or sons.

Colin was bright, funny, polite and well-educated. He always surprised me by being able to discuss any subject I brought up, with intelligence and authority. He was all about "others", never about himself.

This is a very hard thing for each of us now. His family knew him for 27 years. We knew him for about two, and wanted more of him. He leaves a lot of grieving 'brothers' in this Club.

This was one of the people I was very much looking forward to introducing you to this summer, when you visit us.

Frank

Thanks, Frank for the perfect translation.
This young man's death is so inequitable and senseless.
