Frank,

Thanks so much. Unfortunately no cameras at this X-Tion. Just 2,000 ft. from our driveway. Thanks for the action to AG. Referall to Judge is great. Please advise which judge they advised.

Frank, I am embarrased that I do not know how to match Club "handles" with real names. Is there a way? Frankly, I'm just learning how to really use the site.

Running to meeting.

Robin

Robin, one of the happy elements of the CTZCC is that we respect (and protect) everyone's privacy. A member can join (they have to give their full name in the Application), but then 'do business' in the Discussion Forums under a screen name. We protect all personal information of our members and, judging from our explosive growth, that works for a lot of people.

At the bottom left corner of each Post, you will see a series of balloons which you can press, to see how much (if any) personal info a member is willing to share with us.

Sometimes you just have to be happy with a screen name. Other times you will get to know individuals by name (that's going to happen to you a lot now, I think) and other times cautious members eventually relax and tell us more about themselves. It seems to be a happy mix, so far.

We are not allowed to share any personal information about our members with anyone ~ not even with other members. If any of our 6 Club Officers did so, he would lose his job. I keep reminding our members, "whatever you want other members to know about you, you'll have to tell them yourself".

Don't be embarrassed. It took me a full year before I had a face matched to each name in this Club, then our membership rolls exploded and I'm back to knowing about half of us by sight or car. With over 400 members, I consider that an accomplishment (since I can't remember what I had for dinner last night  )

Hi Mmebers,

Here's a news clip of the press conference today. More likely at 10 and 11 PM news tonight on RI channels 6, 10, 12. Also tomorrow, check print media like Providence Journal, Westerly Sun and Chariho Times.

We are encouraged that this legislation may actually pass before the end of the Senate term in 2 weeks. If so, it would probably set a record for time from introduction to passage for a new piece of new legislation in RI. It would be a great victory for Colin that will benefit the citizens and visitors of RI.

Here's the link:

Will keep everyone posted.

Robin.

Hi Members,

For those of you that may be following this, the Providence Journal has offered to do a feature on Colin's 240Z cars in their popular Sunday "CARS SECTIION" sometime this summer. The following is email correspondence with the editor of this section of the largest newspaper in RI:

Dear Mr. Foote,

Thank you for your note and please accept my sympathy for the loss of your son. I would be delighted to honor his memory through his Datsun. Contact me when you are ready.

Sincerely,
Peter Elsworth

Peter,

My name is Robin Foote and a week ago yesterday, our son, Colin Foote,
was killed by a car that ran a red light in Charlestown, less than a
mile from our house and in front of my wife and other son.
Undoubtedly, you, likely have read about this devastating event. I am
writing you because Colin was a Datsun 240Z fanatic. He and I have
together restored 2 70's cars (mostly him) and have been working on a
3rd "Series 1" (1970) acquired this winter in FL.

Colin had a goal of completing the final restoration on our first
"Series 1" (Red) and then inviting you to do a feature on these
magnificent cars which were way ahead of the curve for their day. The
Red 240Z is presently in NH at Datsun specialist, A&C Imports, having
a few final touches accomplished in preparation for it's national
judging.

Colin put his heart and soul into these cars and once we are ready, I
look forward to contacting you in hopes that his efforts may be
newsworthy to you readership to justify a feature in your weekly
Sunday edition. I am dedicated to the memory of his passion for these
cars and would be grateful if you would consider this request.

I have attached a couple of photos taken the day Colin was awarded the
"Best Datsun" Award at the Japanese Classic Car & Motorcycle Show,
sponsored by and held at the Larz Anderson Auto Museum in Brookline,
MA last August.

You may contact me at any time at the following:

Robin,

At times like this I struggle to find the right words to describe how I feel about this senseless tragedy. The few times I met you and Colin at ZCCNE events I was moved by the bond you both had and your passion for your Z cars. I also remember how engaging and articulate Colin was as he described with pride all the work that you had done together on your cars. May those cherished memories warm your heart long after the pain you are now dealing with begins to subside. I still have similar memories of my dad and I working on his Oldsmobiles together. Even though he passed away eighteen years ago, I still remember some of those times together with such clarity that you would think it happened just yesterday and not forty five years ago.

I will speak to the officers of the ZCCNE and recommend that we also reserve a space in Colin's memory at our upcoming show on Sunday June 6th at Clay Nissan and our annual event at Larz Anderson in August.

He will be deeply missed. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

Hi Mike,

Would it be possible to get the file of this fitting tribute you have made of Colin. I am going to recommend to the officers of the Z Car Club of NE thay we also pay tribute to Colin in the same fashion as you plan to do at your upcoming events. We have a show on Sunday June 6th that I would like to make a copy of this poster to reserve a spot for Colin.

Thank you

Mark,

Thank you for your kind words about Colin. While Colin and i were extremely close and were very fortunate to do many things together and share many interests, it was Z cars that allowed us to work hand and hand together as a true team. While we had some moments of "tension" they generally involved a good "ribbing" of one another. Although, I must admit, Colin was nearly OC when it came to how to do what should be done. He was always focused on perfection.

I think that this is one of the great things about the Z car community, (what I now truly feel as the bond of a brotherhood), there is an incredible range of interests and directions that each of us may elect to go with our cars. As for us, we had decided that because our original red 70" (9/70) was in such exceptional shape due to its life in CA, AZ and finally NM, and as about original as they come these days, we would take this one to the max in terms of trying to achieve a "Showroom" condition. We really thought the best term to describe this was a "refreshing" since so many parts were in nearly new shape or had been caringly replaced by a former owner.

On the other hand, Colin found a 72 "Metalic Olive Drab" with "Butterscotch" interior, which was the first new car I ever owned (right off the dealer floor in June of 72' for $3,671). He was so determined that we get this car because of my stories about the Z which began his original interest in the car, that I agreed to him selling his "mint" 78' 280 and I'd pick up the difference.

We decided that we'd recover the seats, install new carpet and perhaps tweak this car up a bit with "unnoticeable" performance enhancements including new springs and shocks. Essentially a good looking "driver"

I would like to continue this discussion regarding this year's Larz Anderson event - my other son is dragging me off to the "Y".

Thanks,

Robin Foote

Well, this entire Thread is just a ping-pong of emotion.

I am greatly warmed by the thought that other clubs will also honor Colin by leaving him an open space in their car shows (like the military Missing Man formation) and I again salute our member Scott Cole for first introducing that wonderful idea.

I was once again overwhelmed by Robin Foote's valiant address to the RI legislature on behalf of his son. Robin, Colin would be very, very proud of you ~ (again).

And I hope RI names this law after Colin, NOT after Laura.

We will dedicate the car show on Sunday June 6th at Clay Nissan in memory of Colin and reserve a space for him.

Please go to the Events forum to get the details of the show. We hope the CT members will join us as we pay tribute to Collin and his love of the Z car.

Good Morning,

If any who wish to follow the legislative effort to pass a bill in the RI Legislature (Hopefully referred to as "The Colin Bill"), you can see updated news stories on the links below.

Thanks for expressing your heartfelt thoughts and continued support for Colin.

Good morning Robin, and again my condolences and other of my family members and friends are keeping Colins Spirit alive in our thoughts and prayers. I hope this Bill goes through. Another thing I wish they would consider, is a MORE EXTENSIVE DRIVERS EDUCATION. The driving conditions out there seem to get worse every year. I see they are trying to blame the light, but I didn't see any mention of the yellow light, just green and red. God Bless.

Paul,

Your point about driver education is an excellent one. The proposed legislation has a mandatory 60 hour "driver retraining" and 60 hour public community restitution program requirement. Of course, the violator's license may be suspended by up to one year or revoked by the court.

Don't forget to write or email your RI representative and senator to support passage of the bill. This is urgent as next Wednesday there will be "discussion" by the legislators and we expect a vote within days of the discussion in both the House and Senate.

To access the phone number or email address of your local representatives see following links:

For a listing of State Representatives: http://www.rilin.state.ri.us/House/
For a listing of State Senators: http://www.rilin.state.ri.us/Senate/

Thank you for your kind words and voicing your concern.

Robin Foote
