CASE UPDATE: Laura Reale re-offends, violates parole

Stoned on drugs, Laura Reale killed our Z-buddy Colin Foote in 2010. She was convicted and sentenced to serve 8 years in prison, followed by 2 years of parole.

In 2015 she completed Drug Rehab and was released on parole, having served only 4 of the 8 years she was sentenced to. She went directly into supervised adult parole.

Early last year (2019), police found Reale passed-out in a car which contained drugs. She admitted to her Parole Officer that she had been using strong drugs since her 2015 release from prison, and falsifying urine tests to avoid detection. The judge ordered her held without bail and returned her to prison to serve the remainder of her sentence, pending another trial in spring of this year.

Due to corona virus pandemic, most courts have been suspended. It is unclear whether Reale has been tried again yet or not.

May 16, 2022 represented the twelfth anniversary of the death of Colin Foote, an amazing young man and former member of this club.

Colin's legacy lives on in at least two important ways:

First, through "Colin's Law", which was passed by the RI legislature and requires repeat traffic law offenders to undergo remedial driving training (among other requirements).

But secondly, Colin's 240Z, which he helped restore with his father Robin, is now in the hands of the Audrain Auto collection in Newport RI. The museum, with access to collections containing over 350 cars and motorcycles ranging from brass era pre-War cars to Supercars of the 2000s, displays three or four fresh and thematic exhibits each year. Today, the Audrain museum released a video profiling Colin's 1970 240Z with commentary by Donald Osborn, CEO of Audrain. You can watch the video at: https://youtu.be/7Ic3-ANt6SM

Colin lives on in the hearts of those that knew him, in driver safety measures now in place in RI and of course in this very special red 240Z, that brings a smile to anyone that drives it.

You are not forgotten Colin Foote.

Wait…is it possible that next month our buddy would have turned FORTY? It’s pretty late right now…my math must be wrong.

Always remembered, never forgotten. Meeting a serious Z guy close to you was a new friendship and I will always remember that Ride we took.

On Thursday, 08Aug24, Colin would have turned 42.
Please give our friend a quiet moment’s thought.

Colin Foote, forever 27.
His family and heart-mate Mallory are thinking of him today on his 42d birthday.
As are we, his Z Buddies.
Each of our lives has rolled onward, but a piece of each of us will remain stalled together in 2010.
Frank T
