I found a pretty good deal on a set of early replacement floor pans. I know there are differences and even searched Zeddfindings website for pics but they are unclear. How significant are the differences? If I am cutting and welding floor pans in anyway a little extra fab work at that point isn't going to kill me (the rust will though!) but if they are totally completely undeniably different then I'd rather spend the money and have it fit properly. Cost is a factor, as always, and am trying to keep my resto costs down while doing quality work.

FYI: car is a 76, pans are for 70-74.

Any info you guys have is always appreciated and pics are always welcome too!

Why not ask the expert in this matter?

Our member John@BadDogParts.com, manufactures and sells floor kits and rails for Z carz. (He's also helping to plan the upcoming ZCon for ZCCNE).

I don't think there's that much difference. I know the cars got stretched a tad over the years, but don't know if that would effect the replacement of floorpans or not.

Maybe the dimensions changed when they contemplated the 2+2 cars, or something?

To the best of my knowledge (and experience) the floor pans for 1974-78 Zs were slightly WIDER than the earlier models, possibly to accomodate the revised transmission mounts and/or exhaust.

I would bet that the floor pan kits, no matter where sold, are all the same dimensions. Slight fabrication to fit will always be necessary when replacing the floorpans.
