My 42 year old windshield is covered with pits and sparkles and has seen better days. So to prepare for this coming Winter project I decided to find one to replace it. I checked and the factory 72631-E4100 windshield is not in stock at any dealer in the US…out of production of course.

Black Dragon sells windshields for $179 but charges $100 shipping (glass...self-explanatory). MSA versions are more expensive and may be OEMs, but shipping from CA to CT worried me. Then I stumbled across winshieldstogo.com. Long story short…from their website I bought a PGW (Pittsburgh Glass Works) windshield for my 240Z for $121…from their “vintage glass” line.

Even better…the Connecticut PGW glass depot is in West Hartford…so I drove up yesterday and picked it up with a couple of quilts in my trunk. Crystal clear, light blue tinting, the quality is high, it makes the one in my car look very decrepit. Can't wait to install it.

Too bad you didn't zee this thread:

http://forums.ctzcc.com/viewtopic.php?t ... c&start=30

R-2 D-2 had a perfect windscreen just begging somebody to take it home with them. Only problem was it was still in the car so you would have had to remove it.

Yep I'll be installing it...but I'm going to need some help and some extra sets of hands. It won't be for awhile...I'll need to call in some favors when the time's right... 8)

Based on the success we can do yours next Phil :P

I volunteer if you need me. I think I remember how to find your place. I also have one of those nifty glass suction cup handles you can use (I can do pull-ups on it!).

Hope you have a better time with yours than I had removing the one from the 1971 Club Partz Car. It took me DAAYYYZ to cut the rubber grommet around it so it would come out without breaking or chipping it.

I must have had about 10 hrs of hard labor on that removal. Sold that sucker for a $20 donation to the Club!

Thanks for the offer...but I'm sure I'd have a short fuse and probably crack it trying to get it out.

BTW, the replacement windshield in my Corolla is also a PGW brand. Not too shabby....

A rubber gasket(which may have hardened over time)holds the glass in place. If the chrome trim which seats in said gasket iz still there and you want to save the trim, carefully slice away the gasket/pry out the trim. Then, using a longer than average length (2-3 inch) blade in a utility knife, slice away the remainder of the gasket by holding the blade flat against the outside of the glass and cut in til you feel metal. Run the blade thusly around the exterior of the windshield opening and,w/ any luck, you should be able to gently push the glass out of the car. If there are any 'gravel starz' already in the glass be extra careful. Hope this helpz.
