What is that and where can I get some. I'm restoring a '78 280z and was wondering what I could do to reduce the in cabin noise and temperature. The interior has been stripped and I'm having new floors and frame rails welded in. Before I replace the carpet I was wondering what type of insulation would help me. |

Thanks Seth. I'll add the link and name of the insulation to my shopping list of items I'll need as my restoration progresses. Let me know how it works out for you. - Paco Acosta |

That's called ThermoTec and it's adhesive, like shelf paper. Easy to cut and apply. Better for heat protection than for sound deadening, but better than no sound deadening at all. Some users complain it leaves a tar-smell when you apply it to the floors. Does it? Remember, the Zs have drain holes in the floorpans to let out any water which gets dumped in there by a broken heater or open window in a rain storm or car wash. If you cover those plugged holes you may have to find them later and cut your way to them. Most of us have fantasiZed about lining our S30 with some kind of deadening and heat shielding. The old SCARAB of the 1970s insulated the entire cabin of each car they made, with outstanding results. I've been tempted to spray expanding foam under the rear panels, but was afraid they would get pushed inward or popped off. A lot of the interior noise in a 240 comes from the resonance of that big "drum" in the cargo area, directly above the differential. There's not a whole lot you can do about that. And it's a sportscar, after all, so we should expect some road noise. |

Frank, thanks for the feedback. A few things to think about. In the end, I'm not after a Lexus style cabin, but just a slight improvement on noise and heat. Good point on the drain holes. I'll keep that in mind. - Paco Acosta |

You'll be happy that you added something. I laid down insulated aluminum bubble wrap and it helped a lot. |

So I accepted a deposit on my z today. Its going to a good home. Some small needs will be given attention to make it's ride to Philly uneventful. I will miss it like crazy. |

That's right, and you can't quit a Free Club. Just because you are temporarily Z-less doesn't mean you have to stop schmooZing with the rest of us. |

Seems so weird, not hearing any chatter on this thread now. After talking about it for 3 years and with more than 12,000 views, this silence sounds like an empty warehouse. Any feedback from the new owner yet? |
