I picked up this car last year

Image

but found out it had been in a rear end collision where they cut the car in half and welded in a rear from a 260z....no good. Scrapped.

So I picked this shell up:

Then the guy working on the car backed out of the job and I needed to find a new person to work on it.

It now is at its new bodyshop having the final touches done to it before painting it corrado classic pearl green:

Further along:

And the goodies:

Here is the engine that is going into it. A 1995 firebird formula's heart. A 5.7L LT1 V8 mated to a T56 6 speed transmission:

Its not a quick process but it will be done eventually and be my baby.

picked the color:

Primed:

Its now home!

Haven't had a lot of time to work on the car itself but it now has a home to live in for the time being

I plan on getting crates for the base and putting plywood on those to allow for a dry, flat surface to work on. More updates soon!

Pearl Green, as in pearlescent?

I intend to shoot my Z pearlescent pewter (someday, when I find some of that "spare" money). Wondering how much it cost to shoot the whole car, including jambs? (Ballpark figure?) How much paint did it take?

Frank (and everybody),
I'm going to make a "test case" out of the #1905 car when I pick it up.

My neighbor Joe, 3 houses up the street around the curve, owns a body
shop in West Haven which among other things, happens to be the facility
which does all the A/B repairs for Harte Nissan. I told him I was getting
a Z which will need to be painted; and if I received a superior product
for a reasonable price (great value, which I always preach about), it
would be like free advertising since the car would be seen by hundreds
of people at car shows, cruise-ins, and Z Club events.

He assured me that I could expect great value. I look forward to being
able to make a highly complimentary entry in the "Vendor Raves (not
Gripes)" section below. And of course, I myself could also become his
best client (other than Harte).

On the other hand, if someone would like to offer a competitive bid......

All Z Best,.......................Kathy & Rick

This is one of those projects which every Z owner fantasiZes about. Strip a 240 down to the metal and build it back up the way you envision it. Several of our members have done this (and a few of them are still sane) and others are still in the process.

You have to have patience, money, and an understanding spouse. OtherwiZe the project never gets finished and your friends find you crying in your garage.

How were the frame rails? Did you have to replace them? www.BadDogParts.com makes some really beefy rails, strong enough to handle the torque of that LT-1.

Yep John was one of the first people I contacted when I started the project. It has the rails installed but the originals were not toooooo bad. Better safe than sorry

Its been a long road so far but well worth it. I told my wife this is what I want to be buried in. She knows how much I love these cars. I enjoy the following they have. I have had a few in the past (82 in highschool and 72 in college) and love VW's for the same reason.

Sorry bro ~ you can't be buried in your Z. I already had that idea and learned it is a No Go. Everybody has laws....

But it's great that you and I both told our gals the same thing! (I had that idea in 1975). There was a woman who was buried in her "favorite" Rolls Royce (she had several) with the gear lever in her hand, but that wasn't in the USA.

If the car is going to sit outside, get a tarp for under the car. Project is looking great. One of our members at NYZCC has this same swap done!

Putting a tarp down. Pallets. And plywood to even it out and keep it flat.
