So I am going to tackel fixing the seats in the 240z in the next few weeks. When I sit the seat saggs it appears that the straps under the seat are broke. I also think that some of the metal rods have fallen off from the bottom. My question is has anyone repaired their seats, what did you use and where did you find the parts, i.e straps and rods.

I also was wondering if anyone used the strap repair kit offered by blackdragon and if its worth the investment.

Thankz Bobby

Hey Bobby -

Seat overhaul is one of the easier jobs and you get a lot visual reward for your effort. Here is a link to my Photobucket folder with a series of pics as I went thru the process.

You are on target in suspecting a problem with the webbing and should plan on replacing it.

I got my new covers and a webbing kit from Brian Rolfe at Seatz Mfg. John T. from the Rochester club put me onto him. Simply put, some of the finest resto-quality products in the market. And... no higher prices than the rest of the sources.

Take only one seat apart at a time so you always have a reference point as you work thru the first one. Check the foam cores as your sag may also be caused by rot. If so, Seatz also has the replacement cores. If your cores are OK, plan on adding a bit of upholstery foam to help overcome shrinkage over 40 years and to fill out wrinkles. I used 1/2" high density foam from a craft store, you can also get it at most auto upholstery shops.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Jim

I second the SeatZ recommendation! I installed their stock, high back seat covers in my 280zx several years ago. I get compliments on them every time I show the car.
