In the past, this Club has searched high and low for a local chrome plating service. The closest firms were all revealed to be sending our work to the Great Lakes area (which we could have done ourselves), with a 9-week turnaround and uncomfortable prices.

Today I spoke with a friend whose classic Rolls Royce got rear-ended at a stop light  and had the bumper crunched up pretty badly. His classic insurance recommended BAR PLATING, INC of Meriden, a place I've never even heard of:

http://barchromeplating.com/Home.html

I haven't been there yet (I will, soon) but their website made me go look around the garage for things to chrome! When I do some business with them, I'll Post an entry in the VENDOR RAVES and GRIPES forum.

One of the most interesting things about BAR is the variety of plating elements they offer. I can just picture my 5-slot wheels plated in copper or Hamilton Brass!

They also chrome PLASTIC, which immediately brought to mind my tail lights and console control panel.

BAR Plating, Inc
30-7 Powers Drive, Meriden CT 06451

Anybody else ever heard of these guys?

Frank

First time I ever heard of them.
But then again, I've been "out of the loop" for so long..........

Perhaps whomever first approaches them with a job could make
mention of the fact that we are a Club of 500+ cars, many of which
are "a little along in years," for the purpose of setting up a system
of REDUCED RATES to Club members (notice I didn't say "discounts").

I, for one, am a prime prospect to give them a lot of business if they
do. But I wouldn't be too hyped at a "percentage discount." After
all, a $100 job which is pumped up to $125 to offer a 10% discount
still loses you $12.50. Even at 20% off you would only break even.
As the old saying goes, figures lie and liars figure................

I agree that the idea of having my rear taillight plastic trim re-chromed is a pretty seductive idea. How about a valve cover...no more polishing on a buffer wheel(!)

Here are their listed prices:

Car Rims 225 Each
SwingArms 200 - 350
Exhaust 30 - 40 / Foot
Bumpers 400*
Rear Spring 125
Front Rotors 110 Each
Rear Rotors 60
Break Calipers 65 - 95 Each
Sprockets 50
Peg Brackets 35 - 48
Foot Pegs 20 Each
Break/Clutch Leavers 20 Each
