Once you pop the horn button off the steering wheel of the early 240 cars, the plastic ring(s) inside it split and break. This causes the button to fall off the wheel at any excuse. I'm about tired of having mine hit me in the Nether Regions unexpectedly

Does anyone have a workable trick to make these buttons stay on? I have three of them and none of them remains where it belongs. Every bump makes me sing soprano. I have resorted to leaving the button on the passenger seat until I'm safely parked, then placing it on the wheel "for show" when I leave the car. Even then, it usually falls off when I close the door.

Any suggestions? (And Phil, Paul and Pete, don't suggest I wear a football cup or take voice lessons!)

Frank

Yeah, I got you Aussies covered! The Aussie grunts in Viet Nam were loonier than me and my Paratroop/Ranger buds. And that's going some!

Yo Frank!

I don't know why, but while chiding "Obsidian Pete" a thought came to mind. #13 has that jumping bean horn button too. I'm gonna take one of those heavier type rubber bands, see if I can do one thickness around the place the horn button sits, and see if that takes up enough of the slack to keep it on. Will advise.......

Happy Birthday to the daughter!!

Let me know how that works. I wrapped a shop towel around my horn button, then secured a 4" Murray Clamp around the towel. The towel kept the clamp from damaging the vinyl on the horn. Then I squirted Lok-Tite into all the cracks in the plastic cup inside the horn button and squeeZed the clamp tight. Left it alone for two days, then put it on the car. It worked a week before it popped off again.

I just gave up and bought one from John Taddonio's parts car. That sits tighter on the wheel and shouldn't fall off.

Hey ~ ROGER on the Aussies and the ANZACs in Nam! Crazier than I was and laughed about most of it. Bunch of tough, brave guys. I watched a 4-man ambush patrol leave Meng Buk one dark night, armed with 3 crossbows and a Sterling 9mm smg! We were carrying all the artillery we could steal and these guys were ambushing Charlie with CROSSBOWS.

They weren't very effective, tho ~ Charlie could smell the beer a Click away!

I have actually heard of two methods for fixing 240Z horn buttons that keep popping off:

1) Carefully insert wooden shims into the foam around the plastic horn ring and glue in place. Helps to snug-up the ring.

2) Carve a ring outside the plastic ring, big enough to insert a hose clamp into. The trick is to CAREFULLY tighten the hose clamp until the horn button is snug.

I've tried the first with success, never tried the second.

FWIW

Id be afraid to try that second idea ~ even if it worked well, I can't IMAGINE how hard it would be to unscrew to get it back off!

And the first one makes a lot of sense to me ~ just get some toothpicks!

It's all moot anyway ~ your horn button was absolutely perfect and stays right where it belongs, thanks
