The early series Z cars have a grease reservoir on the top of the rack on the passenger side. The reservoir is made of white plastic or nylon and is easily broken as it ages (ask me how I know!). After checking with Courtesy Nissan, I learned this part is NLA. I spotted a Zerk fitting on pictures of Frank T's rack and this led to some investigation and a fix.

Here is a picture of the early reservoir (less threaded fitting) and the Zerk fitting that can replace it. The fitting is a 10mm size, SAE M10-1-AM (Alemite P/N 2109, Lincoln P/N 5181).

Here is the fitting installed on the rack.

Nice work, Jim! I assume you used the same hole the reservoir had? Did you have to re-tap it?

No work required, it's a natural fit. Don't we wish all innovation was this easy?

I originally wanted mine on the bottom of the rack, for easier access. It was not a good idea, since road dirt and rocks can clog and damage it down there.

I have seen special zerk fitting replacements with spring-loaded grease reservoirs used on boat trailers. If anyone lives near a trailer dealer or marine supply store it might be worth a few minutes to go in and check....

I remember seeing someone on HybridZ.org also installing zert fittings into his rear LCA's (S30). Its really a great idea, and brings back memories from my days as a crewchief! :)

zerk? zork? zert? I seem to run across a new name for these things every time I see a reference...
