Hey..t hat carb float level check from Z garage looks great.. im gonna give it a try on the 240... let ya know how it goes...
She runs ok but its smokey.. even with another engine that wasn't smokey in its previous car.. its blueish smoke too..but still a little black.. so im a little baffled.. maybe both engines r nakered.. but the carbies r the common link..

i'll give it a try and see if i find anything interesting..
there original SU's but i think there the 4 screw type...
let yas know...

Hi Pete! (What are you doing up so late???) :shock:

I have witnessed Bryan Little's car before and after he did his SU trick, and the "after" is MUCH hotter! It also sounds better (smoother).

I also just heard about another SU trick and wonder if you (or anyone else) has tried it:

A bloke says he removes the plastic plunger caps from his SUs and replaces them with heavy tape (like duct tape). He cuts a small slit into the tape and claims it helps his RPM climb faster :shock: ? I have not heard of that before and haven't tried it myself (yet).

It seems to me that if such an easy trick improved engine performance, DATSUN would have incorporated it themselves.

yeah... sounds a little dodgy.. the plunger is there to dampen the rising of the piston inside.. the piston rises depending upon engine demand.. taking this away i think defeats the purpose of the SU...
I'd try different oils.. i ran auto trans fluid in mine for a bit.. was ok.. but i found sewing machine oil to be best.. its very light oil...

i can see how taking the plunger out can help. but id be worried about poor driveability... probly a good thing to try if your gonna go for a fang around the track.....
