In Thor's 4th photo from the top, with the green/tan Z in the middle, can anyone identify the Datsun inside the showroom window? :shock: I can't tell if it's a Roadster or a 510. The red thing beside the Z is (I think) possibly a 1973 B210?

Hi Thor:
Gee... Didn't see this thread earlier. Interesting information about Nissan UK thanks for Posting it.

Speaking of Nissan UK - - Nissan UK's PR Firm contacted me prior to the Convention in Nashville. They wanted to arrange a joint interview between Mr. Matsuo and Randy Rodriguez for the Editor of BBC's Top Gear Magazine. Long story made short - due to schedule conflicts between several major players, the guys from Top Gear couldn't make it - the joint interview was handled and published by OCTANE Magazine {Sept. 2011 Issue}.

The success of DATSUN in the UK also has to viewed in light of the fact that the UK kept their Post WW-II Protective Trade Tariffs on Imports, in place until well into the 90's. A 240Z sold in the UK for about the same price as an XK-E. Here in the free markets of the US a Z was about half the price of an E-Type.

Nissan outsold Toyota here in the U.S. in 1976 in terms of total sales. Toyota was still #1 if you count only car sales. In combined car and truck sales, ie Total Sales - it was DATSUN with aprox 350,000 units. {15% of which were 280Z's}

FWIW,
Carl B.
