Here is some literature from the Black Pearl edition Z, which was the first Z offerred in black and was only produced in 1978.

Are those mirrors for a black pearl only? They swivel on the post, correct? I have a set.

Hey Paul,
These mirrors were an option for several years and were not exclusive to the Black Pearl. Yes, they swivel on a post. If you go to shows, you'll see them quite frequently. Ross

I bought a set of these for my 240 Back in the Day. They looked great and were among the many doodads stripped off my car when I let it go in the mid-'80s. I think I may still have the receipt somewhere, since all the paperwork came back to me with the car when I found it 23 years later.

In another Post (which I can't find now), somebody asked how to tighten these when they became loose and wobbly. They work on a principal of a two-finger, semi-circular ("crescent-moon") clamp inside, pressing against the ball. Tightening the crescent moon clip increases friction on the ball and tightens the mirror. A single screw tightens/loosens the clamp.

The two tiny screws which allow access are located under the body of the mirror. That opens the whole unit, altho removal of the glass is neither necessary nor recommended.

They were good mirrors. Quality glass, good mercury, large visual area. They were metal and heavy enough not to vibrate or buffet around at speed. Whoever stole mine knew what to take. (Probably mounted on a dead Camaro somewhere now!)

Did y'all notice that New Member Jim Stephens has brought another Black Pearl into our Paddock? Beautiful car ~ looks pristine from his photos. I've always felt these cars should have come from the factory with the clear plexi covers over the headlamp nacels ("sugar scoops"). I saw a BP once with aftermarket covers on the headlamps and it stopped me in my tracks.

Well that explains why they were on a car in the junk yard.

You guys are great... I have thes black side view mirrors (ross' pictures) now and am very aggravated that they are not rigid. Maybe i need a lesson on how to tighten them.
