What a great idea! He could use Roadsters, 510s, 520s, Zs, and XZs. Anybody who bought ONE would surely want the whole set.

Maybe we can get Rick and Bob together on that plan. Each car could have individual driver's names on he roof, to cover (almost) everyone Bob made famous. (I know he probably wouldn't allow Tom Cruise's name on any more of his cars! Tom wrecked so many of Bob's racers, Bob couldn't afford to keep him on any longer!)

Yeah, that's Bob's arch-rival John Morton in car #46, campaigning one of the factory-designated 240Z racers for Brock Racing EnterpriZes (BRE).

Bob (middle on the podium) looks happy to have won 2nd in this event. First place winner John Morton is on our right (in glasses), and 3rd place John McComb is on our far left. Morton and McComb both raced for BRE, and for awhile, McComb is supposed to have raced with number 33.

Now y'all can see why we called Bob "The Thin Man" (after the movie).

Yeah, after Bob retired and settled down a little he began to put on some normal weight again. He went on a diet this year (altho he didn't need it) because he remembers himself always being "a skinny kid".

I keep telling him he was skinny then because he spent his summers dressed in a Nomex spacesuit from neck to ankles, wearing a helmet and gloves, and throwing himself thru 600 3-G turns each race. The temps inside the old Z racers must have been sweltering. Add to that the upper-body workout of an IMSA race on a hot summer day, and ANYONE would melt down to a 'skinny kid'.

Bob sure looks a lot healthier today than he did then.

Great photo. Still trying to figure out the 'Miss Birdcage' significance?

I went to the Road Atlanta BRE reunion dinner last April which was a great event. Some good war stories from the celebrity panel (Brock, Morton, McComb, etc.)

Bob Lyon was Brocks co-driver the year they ran the 510 in the Mexican Baja; he talked about himself and other BRE guys sneaking out in a few of the 510 race cars for a little late night cantina action. They assumed at the time that Pete Brock was already asleep. Pete was wise to them and snuck out himself to 'steal' the cars back to the paddock. When Bob and the other Tequila-hounds found the cars gone they assumed they were stolen!

Would love to hear similar stories from Bob and the talent behind BSR back in the day. Although obviously P.L.Newman can't be there.

Don't know how I missed this one. I'm not familiar with 520s, but we
should absolutely add the 610 hardtop to the list, as IMO that is one
of the prettiest cars Datsun ever produced. The successor to the famous
510, it went like a rocket in the B-Sedan class. I don't think we ever had
a 710 race car, since that didn't have independent rear suspension, but
if I recall correctly, Don Devendorf might have had one.

Bob deserves a highway named after him. He put CT on the map in the 60s, 70s and 80s with his racing successes. And he sold so many Datsuns (and Ferraris) here, his sales taxes probably paid a few Governors' salaries over the years.

The administration would probably object tho, since a "Bob Sharp Racing Highway" would probably tempt too many lead footed kids into using it as a race course.

(Which would bring even more revenue into the state..... )
