This month's Member Ride of the Month award winner (chosen at random) is Mike Tubiak's 1978 280Z.

Please click HERE to view photos of the evolution of Mike's Z. We know your Z is a work-in-progress, Mike, but whose isn't?

Congratulations Mike - that's one special Z you've got - enjoy it!

HAHAAAAAA! VUNDERBAR! :D The "Dangerous Z" (aka Millennium Falcon) gets highlighted for the respect it deserves!

I have many fun memories of this 'Great '78', including Mike's first debut of it when we held our Monthly Meeting at the Old Saybrook Marina last year. Mike pulled the car into the big boat bay after the meeting and about a doZen of us poured over it, showing him what it needed and how far ahead of the game he already waz. Then on the way home his Twice Pipes and mine blended exhaust notes to shake the countryside for 30mi
down i-95 :)

And when classic car Guru Thorsten Link visited us from Germany last summer, of all the great Zs in our Club, Mike's 'spoke' to Thor. He's the man who gave this car the 'Dangerous' tag.

And the roadtrip to Alice's Restaurant last fall, when Mike's clutch slave cylinder gave way, and Mike finished the trip learning to start, stop and shift without a clutch.

But my favorite memory of this 280Z is when I went with Mike to pick it up when he first bought it. It had sat unused, unmoved, on flat tires, for years outdoors in a gravel pit yard. I came equipped to remove the wheels and free the brakes but when Mike pumped up the tires, this Z rolled right up onto the trailer as if it WANTED to come home with him. I've never zeen another Z ever do that before ~ usually the brakes freeZe solid and you have to drag them kicking and screaming to the trailer.

Since then Mike has made steady improvements on 'Dangerous Z', and has put many many happy miles on it, including some serious-distance roadtrips (Colin Foote's memorial run, Alice's Restaurant, etc).

This is an excellent example of why old Zs should NEVER be crushed. There's always someone out there who loves them enough to resuscitate them and give them a new life. Mostly what they need is love and understanding, and Mike has plenty of both for his 280Z.

Congratulations Mike ~ and THANKS for keeping another one on the road! As soon as we can get Agner to move his Z off the Homepage, you can have your reserved Hyper-parking space for the month!

Frank

I still say I like that car the way it is, in the dark primer.

Initially I had been saying it looked like a "rat-Z," one-of-a-kind.
But as I looked at that picture above, it reminded me more of a
"Stealth Fighter," or a "Stealth Bomber," so I liked it even more.

But with "Twice Pipes" it will never sneak up on any enemies!

With the twice pipes, it turns enemies into friends.
