Thank you so much to the CT Z club and its members for honoring me with the November "Ride of the Month". There are tons of GREAT cars in this club and I am humbled that mine was chosen this month.

I've owned #3833 since 1979, purchased in Chicago from the original owner. The car was sold in June 1970 at Datsun of Hawaii while Owner number one was in the US Navy. The car cruised the islands until 1974 when it was shipped to San Diego and eventually Chicago. It sat from 1976-79 when I found it in the "for sale" pages of Hemmings Motor News.

I enjoyed the car until 1990 when children and real world responsibilities left the Z sitting, so it was put in extended storage for the next decade. In 2000, I got the Z back on the road and started to refurbish what needed refurbishing. I became involved with the Z Car Club of Rochester, eventually becoming president. More Z-Cars came and went, but the 240 was always number one.

In the fall of 2006 the 240z was being trailed to my mechanic's shop to have new springs and suspension bushings installed. While on the trailer, a car cut us off causing the trailer to jackknife, slamming the Z to the left, crushing the left rocker and fender. It could have been much worse, but my Z had had its first accident, with no one driving it!

This incident set in motion a chain of events which led to the decision to do a total restoration of the car. Every nut and bolt was removed and the shell was sanded to bare metal. It's a good thing we did, because I discovered rust issues I didn't know were there. Any problems were dealt with correctly, no cutting corners. The process took almost 2 years and thanks to a LOT of help from my friends, you see the results here.

Here is a link to a gallery of the resto photos from our club website:

If any of you want to know more details, just email me, I'd be glad to tell you! It was a learning adventure for sure!

Once again THANK YOU for honoring my 240Z. I hope to share it with you in person in 2010.

Phenomenal Z John, and the recognition couldn't go to a nicer and more
committed Z Car Nut!!

Listen up, everybody: Kathy and I are fixin' to head for Rochester next
June I think it is, for ZCCR's annual car show. I believe that Frank in-
tends to make the trip too, to reunite his car with her other two Hawaii
sisters that made their way to Rochester, one of which is John's #3833.
So why stop at two, let's start planning now to make it a major convoy
that will turn heads all the way up and back!!

All'a y'all have GOTTA give yourself a treat and see this gorgeous car in
person. And it's a great opportunity to repay our Z Club cousins for the
attendance, support, and encouragement they showed us at our own
event in Sept.

All Z Best, .................................Kathy & Rick

John, I couldn't be happier that your magnificent 240 is this month's MEMBER RIDE OF THE MONTH. It is very significant to me because it helps cement the image of what the 240Z is capable of becoming, if properly restored & cared for. And as you know, I am a die-hard 240Z fanatic.

The SECOND thing I want to say to you is "Congratulations". The FIRST thing I want to say to you is "THANK YOU!". What you have done to (and for) #3833 will preserve it for future generations to enjoy, probably beyond our own lifetimes. If these old 1970 cars have a chance at survival for another 40 years, they need restorations as complete as you did for your car.

And we all KNOW the 1970 carz were the BEST!!!

Looking fwd to hooking up with you and Shawn next year, to photograph our 3 Honolulu carz together. Shakkah, Bra! (That's Hawaiian for "you're OK, I'm OK").

Our carz know that.

Thanks again all for the kind words.

ZCCR's 3 day "All Japanese Classic Car Weekend" will be sometime in July of 2010. We will have the exact dates set in a couple of weeks as we are working with Watkins Glen International for our participants to enjoy LAPS at the historic race course!

Yes, you read that correctly! :D

The schedule will include a Friday night kickoff party, Saturday "All Japanese Classic Car Show" followed by a Saturday evening dinner at a fine establishment of food and drink. Sunday will bring a road rally through the fabulous curvy roads of the Finger Lakes region of New York to Watkins Glen where we will take to the track for some "warm" laps followed by lunch at the WGI clubhouse!

I encourage ALL CTZCC members to join in with Frank, Kathy, Rick and others and spend the weekend with us next summer!

Stay tuned for more details......
