Voting for the October 2008 Member Ride of the Month Contest has now closed.

And the winner is....

Phil Parent's 1981 280ZX Turbo 5 Speed

We *finally* have a 280ZX as our Ride of the Month...as a fellow 280ZX owner, I guess I may be a bit biased...

Congratulations to Phil and to all of this month's nominees.

- Jim

Congratulatons Phil. Yours is one of the nicest cars in our club and a personal favorite of mine. Enjoy that cyber-trophy! Ross

HEY PHIL ~ FINALLY :D

Any time any of us get together, we have a tendency to stand somewhere close to this car while we talk. I noticed it at several meetings, and at a staff gathering of officers once, while we discussed how to manage our first car show. We all just sort of "gravitate" toward Phil's car. Other cars are always present, many newer and some more expensive. But Phil's 280ZX is sort of like your aunt's kitchen.....there are better chairs in the living room and the food is in the dining room, but somehow hanging out in her kitchen just makes you feel more at home.

ALSO: As Club Photographer, you sure know how to shoot cars from many angles. That certainly didn't hurt your chances for this month's trophy!
As a photo project next year, I'd like to see you invent some means of photographing our member's cars from high above, looking almost directly down at them. Start with yours!

Congratulations, Phil ~ your car is as much a steadfast member of this club as you are. I'm proud you belong to us.

That is nice, I love the 81. You can never take enough pictures of a Z car.

HAHAHAHA!

Now all he needs are twin airhorns on the roof and mudflaps on all 4 corners!

Well, this indeed is an honor!! Thank you. My Z normally comes in second in any event I enter it in and I fully intended to come up short again based on the competition this month!!

I will always remember when my son and I entered our first Bob Sharp Z Club car show in 2002. Not yet educated in the ways of judged car shows, my son, who was 12 at the time and very proud of our new toy, was rather taken aback when Ross asked that we close the hood for the judging since we were entered in the daily driver category. Not sure if you remember this Ross, but your comment at the time was something like "with some work you will someday be able to leave the hood open". Of course the Z sported checkerboard seat covers and ripped upholstery among other things. I hope to someday have the time and finances to be able to fully restore her. Until then I will relish my new virtual award!!

Phil

Wow Phil. You have a good memory. I regret that my rather insensitive comment has stuck around in your head all of these years! There is a place for every Z in our club, even the ones with grimy engine compartments! Ross

"...someday FULLY RESTORE her" ????

My Gosh, Phil! What more could she possibly need? If it ain't broke, don't fix it. She's gorgeous now ~ the perfect overall effect. You go making it any more refined and it will lose the appeal of a DRIVER'S CAR. Anyone can own a showcar, but they can't drive it without losing points off it.

Yours is the perfect balance btwn form and function. I'll be shocked if you invent anything more to do to her. Talk with Bryan and Mike E about daily drivers before you make any changes to your Beauty Queen ~ they make a lot of sense about these cars.

Frank
