SO? What's happening with this project?
Did you quit?
Is it for sale?
Did something fall off?
Have you been arrested for terroriZing the neighborhood and disturbing the peace with an unregistered motor vehicle?

You were just shy of firing it up a month ago, then your crystal went dark.
Better not tell us you set fire to your garage!

How about an update?
Frank

Sorry for the delay in updates. I’ve been working on the Acura seats, trying to get them to fit into the Datsun floors. Not an easy fit, apparently people’s posteriors were a bit thinner in 1977 as opposed to the 2000s!!

I had to strip the bottoms of the Acura seats from all of the sophisticated rods, adjusters, reinforcements, not only to make the Datsun sliders fit, but to cut some weight. It took a LOT of in out measure cut in out measure cut drill out and finally in to get them to fit. And they are a huge improvement in looks and comfort!

The LS ECU had been shipped out to an expert in Missouri to reprogram it for my specific application. Once the wire harness is done, HOPEFULLY it will be plug and play to bring the beast to life.

And finally, I made a nice score on eBay for a OEM, NOS, never out of the box Clarion Datsun AM/FM stereo radio! The 530Z needs a radio so I’ll be taking the Sony unit currently residing in my 1970 240Z and putting it in there. As the 240Z is now pretty much a show car, the OEM radio will go in there. And yes, I know it’s not exact for the car, but close enough. And better than AM only!

Stay tuned.

Wow, those seats are a huge improvement!
Any interference with the seat belts?

I had to trim the seat frame side supports to allow for enough clearance. It’s tight but it worked.

I only ask because I once fit Mustang seats into an MGB and that was the first problem I had.

And if you put a stereo radio into a 240, you'll have to add at least one more speaker somewhere, right?

And I see you are still taunting me with that 48-star Old Glory. :?

Those seats look like a great fit, nice choice!

I also really like how the carpet dye turned out, from what I can see it's the duplicolor product you are using? Any tips from having used it multiple times?

That car will be a handful!

The Duplicolor fabric/vinyl spray works great! It covers very well but may take several coats to get the depth that you want, especially on carpets. The process that works best for me is vacuum, spray, dry, repeat until you get the look you want. I’ve also used it on interior vinyl with excellent results.

I have a rear panel that replaces the OEM tailight panel that houses two 6x9 speakers. I believe MSA used to sell them. Already in the car.

Family heirloom Frank.

Hi everyone. Sad to say that my mom passed away last week after an unexpected but brief illness. Needless to say, the 530Z project has been sitting idle for a few weeks. Sad, but life goes on.

It’ll be a good distraction to get back on track next week. The ECU has been reflashed and the new fuel delivery system is ready to go in. Something very exciting about NEW car parts!

Spring is just about here, the days are finally getting longer and warmer. Time to bring this beast to life! Stay tuned...

Condolences, buddy.
You'll see her again.

The car will, indeed, offer a good place to focus.

Project 530Z update:

The 530Z and the 240Z have traded places in the garage so work can continue on the project while the 240Z enjoys its 51st year on the road.

The custom transmission mount has been installed and the motor mounts tightened up. Finally the drivetrain is in place and secured! Next up, having a custom driveshaft made with the 300zx yoke and 280z flange. Off to the machine shop it goes this week. Stay tuned!

I love that you're showing us this swap step by step. We are eagerly learning from your mistakes, which don't seem to be too plentiful so far.......

Project 530Z update:

The custom driveshaft is out being fabricated (300zx yoke + 280zx flange + 26.25” = 530Z)and the engine wire harness is being completed, so while I wait for them, the BIG new aluminum radiator with twin fans will be installed this week. The HOT beast needs to be COOL! In more ways than one.

Stay tuned....
